Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Acrylic- and epoxy-alkoxysiloxanes are increasingly used in moisture-curing isocyanate-free resins for marine and protective applications. These resins are valuable alternatives to 2K polyurethanes due to their broad range of performances and their benefit to cope with recent environmental trends. Their market penetration, however, has been limited so far due to an unfavourable cost/ performance ratio.
A new family of polymers based on the combination of vinyl (neo)ester and vinyl alkoxysilane monomers is presented in this paper. These polymers, with solid content between 70 to 100%, offer attractive properties by varying process parameters, monomers composition and alkoxysilane levels, as well as an attractive cost level. This new, highly versatile, binder technology was tested in 1- and 2K moisture-cure coatings with standard catalysts. The tests demonstrate that high solids content, fast drying development and long shelf life can be combined in a cost-efficient and isocyanate-free solution. The performances of these vinyl silane copolymers enable the development of a new range of valuable alternatives to 2K polyurethanes and acrylic-alkoxysiloxanes for many applications, especially in protective coatings.Note de contenu : - Moisture curing alkoxysilanes

Samples with equal photoinitiator concentration cured at a much faster rate using the xenon chloride lamp. It was found that the concentration of the photoinitiator could be greatly reduced and still give rapid rates of curing when the xenon chloride lamp with peak output at 308 nm was used. VernisIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Auto refinish coating market is moving towards Polyurethane based products because of its superior performance, finish, durability, and exhaustive shade choices. Auto refinishing demands different qualities from paint. An auto finish has to be soft enough to allow the polishing out of dust and minor imperfections. Polyurethane proved right choice for this need.
Covestro provides a wide range of solvent-borne and waterborne systems that achieve the processing standards needed for refinish coatings as well as the high-quality performance to match factory-applied coatings. With increasing environmental awareness and stricter legislations, coating manufacturers have started investing in waterborne, high sol ids technology. Solvent-reduced high-sol id polyurethane coatings systems known as 'Polyaspartics' offer the lowest possible solvent content and the fastest curing.
Covestro offers water-borne polyols and polyisocyanates for clear coat and basecoat formulations that fulfill the highest standards for car refinish coatings and help reduce the solvent content of coating formulations.Note de contenu : - RISE OF POLYURETHANES IN CAR REFINISH COATINGS MARKET

Vernis -- Propriétés mécaniquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Air-drying alkyds require anti-skinning agents to prevent premature curing in the can. There is regulatory pressure in Europe to reduce exposure to these agents to levels which are difficult to meet. An iron drier encapsulated so that it is protected from oxygen during storage but released during application produces minimal skinning. Good to know that they don't reduce the coatings performance. Note de contenu : - Anti-skinning additives face regulatory challenges
- Regulations may require replacement of cobalt driers
- Drier encapsulation can resolve skinning problems
- Application tests summarised
- Drying speed and skin formation tests
- Encapsulation does not affect hardness or yellowing
- Mechanical and thermal stability are both good
- Polar solvents can however disrupt encapsulation

VernisIndex. décimale : 667.6 Peintures Résumé : The decks of ships faces severe abrasive atmosphere and the reduction of the possibility of skidding or slipping on wet decks constitutes a major problem for paint formulators. For commercial shipping Unes non-skid deck paint designed to federal spec-ifications are needed. Many times on crude tankers there is spillage of crude oil on the decks. Therefore antiskid properties of high grade are required. On Naval vessels particularly the aircraft carriers anti skid properties of very high standard and reliability is needed to facilitate the smooth landing of airborne vehicles.
