New, low-temperature-curing adhesives that are also suitable for joining temperature-sensitive materials such as different kinds of PET or PC provide an efficient solution. Therefore, they are conquering new application areas in many industries, such as automotive industry, electronics or microelectronics. Note de contenu : Harsh environmental conditions / Fast processes despite low-temperature curing / Fast processes thanks to dual curing / Automotive applications.

Terpolymère acrylonitrile butadiène styrèneIndex. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : A novel technology is provided to cope with adhesion of plastics. In transportation, construction and building markets the use of lightweight plastic materials keeps growing as these materials will improve the energy efficiency. For instance, fuel consumption in cars is out and buildings can be more efficiently insulated. Besides practical uses, plastics also allow nicer designs, as shaping of plastics in complex forms is easier. This trend results in hybrid assemblies, as different types of plastics, metals, wood, will have to be joined together and require structural 'hybrid' adhesives, which can adhere materials with different expansion rates and exhibit high adhesive strength to replace welding, riveting and nailing.

Transparence (optique)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Waterborne ultraviolet-curable polyurethane (WUPU) and its nanocomposites based on polycarbonate and α,ω-dihydroxy-[poly(ε-caprolactone)-poly(dimethylsiloxane)-poly(ε-caprolactone)] (PCL-PDMS-PCL) were synthesized using isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), dimethyl propionic acid (DMPA), polycarbonate diol (PCD), PCL-PDMS-PCL, hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), and aqueous colloidal silica. The resulting WUPU materials were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopies, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and rheometry. The effects of PCL-PDMS-PCL and silica on the colloidal, physicochemical, and surface properties of the WUPU and its nanocomposites were studied. It was found that incorporation of PCL-PDMS-PCL (10 wt%) significantly enhanced the Young’s modulus, tensile strength, surface hydrophobicity, and water resistance of the WUPU films due to microphase separation and better interfacial adhesion between the PDMS soft phase and urethane hard phase provided by the PCL blocks. Furthermore, incorporation of silica (10 wt%) further improved the modulus, tensile strength, and water resistance of the PCD-PCL-PDMS-PCL-WUPU films without degrading the high surface hydrophobicity or transparency, due to the homogeneous dispersion and network structure of the silica clusters in the WUPU matrix. Terpolymère acrylonitrile butadiène styrèneIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The Fraunhofer ICT has been involved with additive manufacturing since the 1990s. At the Fakuma 2017, the scientists amazed the trade visitors with glowing USB sticks made from functionalized PC/ABS. For this purpose, they had made the plastic conductive with the aid of carbon nanotubes and processed the composite using Arburg Plastic Freeforming. Note de contenu : - Conducting paths and housing are produced in an additive process
- Material freedom signifies increasing complexity
- Fig. 1 : Carbon nanotubes are responsible for the illumination of "light sticks". The Fraunhofer ICT compounds the electrically conductive material itself and then processes it by the APF process using the Freeformer
- Fig. 2 : First, the black functionalized material with inserted LED, then the white ABS housing, is applied onto a build platform by an additive process
- Fig. 3 : In the processing with the Freeformer, the process parameters can be freely adapted to the material

ThermogravimétrieIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The present work aimed to study the influence of ABS type and compatibilizer on the thermal and mechanical properties of PC/ABS blends. For that, blends of PC with two types of ABS, with different rubber content, were prepared at 70 wt% of PC and 30 wt% of ABS, without and with compatibilizer at loadings of 1, 3 and 5 wt%. The effectiveness of those formulations was examined by means of morphological (SEM), thermal (DSC, TGA) and mechanical (tensile and microhardness) properties. It was shown that the compatibilizer had in general beneficial effects on the global properties of PC/ABS blends, and that the optimal amount of compatibilizer depends on the ABS type.
