SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : Here we study the influence of alkaline cations on the self-assembly of cetylpyridinium chloride and cetylpyridinium nitrate. It is known that the anionic counterions have a strong influence on the solubility and self-assembly properties of cationic surfactants. However, in this paper we will show that monovalent cations have also an influence which is weaker but detectable. Scattering techniques (X-Ray, light) were used to obtain structural information about the aggregation as a function of the temperature and the ionic strength. The results are interpreted in terms of ion pair adsorption at the micellar interface, depending on the ionic strength. Enzymes protéolytiquesUne enzyme protéolytique est une enzyme capable de couper une protéine en plusieurs fragments ou peptides. La trypsine, la papaïne, la pepsine, la chymotrypsine, la plasmine, la subtilisine... sont capables de couper une protéine, chaque enzyme étant spécifique de certains sites particuliers de cette protéine. C'est ainsi, par exemple, qu'une immunoglobuline G est découpée par la papaïne en un fragment Fc et deux fragments Fab, comme l'a montré Porter en 1959.

Huiles et graissesIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Pigskin and cattlehide fleshings were treated with four commercially available proteolytic enzymes that had optimal activities at a neutral or alkaline pH. The digestions were carried out at 40°C for 3 hours and then at 60°C for 1 hour. Up to 87% of the available fat was recovered as well as a readily separated protein hydrolyzate fraction. Chemical analysis demonstrated that the fat contained 0,2-6,0% free fatty acid content depending on the treatment. The results suggest that with a small investment in enzymes a good quality fat can be produced from fleshings which will convert a solid waste disposal problem into a value-added by-product. StatistiqueIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Walnut green husk is one of the main waste products from walnut and could be used as a source of natural dyeing compounds such as juglone. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effective use of walnut green husk extract as a natural hair dye. Dyeing properties, fastness and antimicrobial behaviours of dyed hair and also a skin irritation test for natural hair dye on rat skin were examined. When the extract was mixed with ascorbic acid as a developer, ferrous sulphate as a mordant, and Aloe vera extract used as a secondary mordant and also a cosmetic ingredient, the reaction resulted in a dark-brown colour on hair samples. The dyed hair exhibited appropriate colour strength having excellent morphology for a hair surface coated with dye molecules. In addition, the dyed hair possessed good resistance to washing and daylight fastness, without any irritant properties as shown in a rat model, although high concentrations of iron-based mordant may be problematic for long-term usage. This paper also suggests the use of natural mordants such as lactic and oxalic acids to avoid any probable risks. Walnut green husk extract was an appropriate natural hair dyeing agent in practice and showed maximum antimicrobial activity compared with semi-synthetic and commercial hair dyes. The results demonstrated that walnut green husk can be used as an economical, valuable, eco-friendly and safe source of dyeing and antimicrobial agents for cosmetic products. Tannage Résumé : The current investigation was carried out to evaluate the efficiency of using sunt, Acacia nilotica, pods extract in leather tanning. Skins from 16 Barki rams aged 12-18 months were cured and prepared for tanning using sunt pod extract. The sunt pods were collected and dried at 25°C for 5 days. Thereafter, the dried pods were ground by a 0.3 mm fineness grinder and were further subjected to the extraction procedure. Three chemical additives, namely NaOH, Na2SO3 and Na2CO3 were used for the extraction at 70 and 90°C. The influences of both types of chemical additive and extraction temperature on extraction yield were determined. The extract characteristics in terms of stiasny number, hide powder, tannins, non-tannins and total phenol contents were also analyzed. The results showed that increasing extraction temperature increased (P<0.05) extraction yield and improved the quality of the extract regardless of chemical additive type. Meanwhile, the extraction using either Na2SO3 in aqueous solution or by water at 90°C yielded the best extract characteristics. The elevated concentrations of condensed and hydrolysable tannins obtained in our results point to the possibility of utilizing sunt pod extract in tanning or re-tanning of leather rather than using traditional tanning reagents.
