Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, a fixation test, extraction with boiling N,N-dimethylformamide, and a colour fastness test certified that DHEASPBr-C2 was linked to the cotton fibre through covalent bonds. The results showed that dyed cotton fabric using DHEASPBr-C2 had an obvious fluorescent effect in the range 550–700 nm, and the emission peak location was 588–590 nm. In addition, the dyed fabric met the EN471:2003 standard for chromaticity and could be used in high-visibility warning clothing.
(Wikipedia)
StatistiqueIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Looseness is a defect found in leather that reduces its quality by causing a wrinkly appearance in the finished product, resulting in a reduction in its value. Earlier studies on loose leather using microscopy and Raman spectroscopy reported a change in the collagen structure of loose leather. In this study, proteomics was used to investigate the possible molecular causes of looseness in the raw material, the first time such a study has been carried out. Proteins extracted from two regions of raw hide using two different methods were analysed; those taken from the distal axilla, an area prone to looseness, and those taken from the backbone which is less prone to looseness. Analyses using 1DE-LC-MS/MS showed that although the overall collagen concentration was similar in both areas of the hide, the distribution of the different types of collagen differed. Specifically, concentrations of type I collagen, and the collagen-associated proteoglycan decorin were lower in samples taken from the distal axilla, symptomatic of a collagen network with excess space seen for these samples using confocal microscopy. This study suggests a possible link between the molecular components of raw cattle hide and looseness and more importantly between the molecular components of skin and skin defects. There is therefore potential to develop biomarkers for looseness which will enable early preventative action.

Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In order to provide adequate fire resistance to construction materials, such as steel and wood, the use of high and low molecular weight tannins (TMw-H and TMw-L), extracted from the bark of Pinus radiata, as carbonaceous agents, was studied. The extracts were fully characterized by GPC, HPLC, and UV to determine the total amount of phenols, percentage of the monomers, and total yield. The molecular weights of both extracts varied between 2986 and 5573 Da, and they were mainly composed of catechin and taxifolin. Eco-friendly water-based formulations were obtained, without producing volatile organic compounds (VOCs), by varying the extract content between 15.5 and 37.8% w/w. The coatings, varying in thickness and substrates, were evaluated for their film-forming properties, covering power, mechanical properties, such as adhesion, embossing, abrasion, and flexibility, as well as their resistance to fire. The results indicated that good mechanical properties were obtained when using coatings containing TMw-L compared with those obtained when using TMw-H. The carbonization index (28%) and the mass loss percentage (9.35%) of the coatings containing TMw-L compared well to commercial coatings, indicating that they have excellent fire-retardant properties. However, the behavior of the TMw-H containing coatings was rather intumescent.
