In the present work, we investigated the role of alumina coatings in the variation of the surface wettability of aluminum alloys by nanosecond laser ablation. The superhydrophilic surface (water contact angle close to 0°) was successfully prepared, and the superhydrophilic surface was transformed into the superhydrophobic surface (water contact angle of about 151.4°) after non-fluorinated N-octyltriethoxysilane (OcTES) treatment. XPS results showed that the Al–OH (–OH) hydrophilic groups generated by coating decomposition occupied the main regions on the surface after laser ablation. After OcTES treatment, the OcTES molecules formed Si–O–Al bonds with the rough surface, which significantly increased the C–C(H) hydrophobic groups of the surface. The superhydrophobic surface showed good self-cleaning, anti-icing and anti-corrosion properties. The fabrication method is fast, non-toxic and environmentally friendly, which makes it potentially useful for engineering applications. The dewetting behavior of an epoxy resin/crosslinker mixture on silicon was found to be related to the formation of a monomolecular absorbed film on the substrate surface. ATR-IR spectra of thin films of the epoxy mixture and its components are giving insight into the fundamental cause of the dewetting behavior of the epoxy.
The data suggests molecular architecture of symmetry plays an important role. A complete understanding of the wetting and dewetting behavior of thin adhesive films is integral in ensuring strong, void-free, micron-thick bondlines.Note de contenu : - Experimental

Solvent-based adhesives have a low surface tension that gratly enhances their wetting to low-energy surfaces. However, these adhesives are high in volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and have flammability and health issues.
Over the past two decades, the PSA market has shown a continued shift from solvent- to water-based systems. Coating methods also evolved during the growth of PSA and laminating adhesive products in the past 10 years. As a result of this shift, the adhesive formulator faces several challenges. These are effective high speed/dynamic wetting, foam control, minimum impact on adhesive properties and good application rheology.Note de contenu : - Overview and classification
