RhéologieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this work centering around phenolic chemistry, we investigated isocyanate and benzoxazine-modified phenolic powder coatings for use in anti-graffiti applications and for addressing downhole drill pipe interior coating challenges. Allied polyurethane formulations were developed using phenolic hydroxyl-isocyanate reactions and shown to outperform conventional aliphatic polyol-isocyanate coatings for graffiti-resistant applications. Effects of variables like phenol hydroxyl equivalent weights and molecular weights of phenolic resins were examined. In a separate effort intended for oil and gas downhole pipe interior lining applications, novel fusion-bonded benzoxazine-epoxy-phenolic formulations, without or with an acid catalyst, exhibited excellent adhesion, toughness, and process-ability, in addition to greatly reducing cure requirements as compared to benzoxazine self-polymerization. Applicable rheology and kinetics of cure were quantified, revealing characteristic flow and cure behaviors to strengthen the understanding of structure-property relationships and to facilitate efficient optimization of coating performance.

VitrificationIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Ambient, amine-cured epoxy compositions exist within the dual constraints of VOC regulation and the vitrification effect, which limits the ultimate Tg of these materials. These combined constraints result in epoxy products that are densely crosslinked and which contain appreciable quantities of nonfugitive diluents or plasticizers. Such materials tend to be more brittle than traditional solvent-based epoxy coatings based on solid epoxy resin and polyamide hardeners. There is thus a need for a practical method to measure their fracture toughness. This work introduces the method of essential work as a useful way to determine the fracture toughness of thermoset systems. This method is then used to relate fracture toughness to the crosslink network structures of amine-cured epoxy compositions. The test compositions are varied systematically with a view to structure/properties interpretation, and employ an in situ chain extension approach to "grow" more ductile networks. Solvent uptake of selected compositions is also determined, and the relative trade-off between ductility vs. solvent uptake is examined. Wet-blue (tannage)Peau tannée au chrome (le chrome donne une couleur bleue)Index. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : In this study, diethyl bis(2-hydroxyethyl) aminomethyl phosphonate was modified by hexamethylene diisocyanate, and then was utilized to partly replace the isocyanates to prepare hyperbranched polyurethanes (HPU-DPAs). The hyperbranched polyurethanes were then employed in the retanning process of wet blue. The shrinkage temperature, average thickness as well as mechanical properties of leather before and after retanning were acquired. The flammability of retanned leather was measured by cone calorimeter test. The morphologies of wet blue and leather after retanning by HPU-DAP were obtained using a scanning electron microscope. Results showed that the average thickness, tensile strength and elongation at break of leather were all improved after retanning. Retanning by HPU-DAPs can effectively increase flame retardancy of final leather. Spectrométrie infrarougeIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The ability of such alkalis as calcium, barium, sodium and potassium hydroxides and sodium metasilicates to immunize wool was investigated. Sodium silicate was confirmed as an effective immunization agent whose efficiency increases with inceased tratment duration and treatment solution concentration. Sodium silicate lacks a divalent cation and acts at pH13. This allows the assumption that the immunization mechanism is other than that of calcium or barium hydroxide. Differential scanning calorimetry and infrared spectroscopy analysis results show the differences in hair structure after treatment by various alkalis. Research work is in progress to clarify the mechanism of the hair immunization by sodium silicateand to develop a unhairing processwith hair immunizationwhich is suitable for leather processing En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/13id5nFtYv_VWJqo-W-x1DuFlB4GZ2Xpl/view?usp=drive [...]

ThermogravimétrieIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : In this work, the combustion, thermal, and mechanical performances of long-glass-fiber-reinforced polypropylene/intumescent flame retardant (LGFPP/IFR) composites with different contents of polyamide 6 (PA6) as a charring agent were investigated by limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL-94 test, cone calorimetry, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and mechanical property test. The results showed that LGFPP/IFR/PA6 composites exhibited much better flame retardancy due to the dense char layer structure, as proved by SEM. When 15 wt% PA6 was added, the LGFPP/IFR composites had the best flame retardancy, and LOI increased by 55.1 %, and the UL-94 reached V-0 rating. The cone calorimeter tests indicated that PA6 could prevent the transmission of heat and the volatilization of flammable substances, thereby reducing the heat release of “second burning”. According to TGA analysis, the carbon layer began to form at a lower temperature due to the synergistic effect between IFR and PA6. Moreover, the calculation of apparent active energy (Ea) revealed that PA6 effectively increased the Ea values of the composites, resulting in a better thermal stability and flame retardancy. In addition, PA6 enhanced the mechanical properties of the composites effectively. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Raw materials - Experimental procedure - Measurements and charcterization
