Tannage Résumé : A new pretanning agent (HTPA) for high exhaustion chrome tannage 2,4-di-(1-hydroxymethyl-1, 2, 4-triazole-5-thione)-1,5-phthalic acid and 2,5-di-(1-hydroxymethyl-1, 2, 4-triazole-5-thione) -1,4-phthalic acid, has been synthesized from pyromellitic dianhydride and thiosemicarbazide. Its reaction with pelts and its effect on chrome uptake have been studied by applying it to delimed sheepskins and goatskins. The results show that HTPA reacts mainly with the amino groups in collagen to form crosslinks and that the reaction depends on the pH, temperature, time and amount of HTPA. Pelt pretanned with HTPA possesses a higher shrinkage temperature than control pelts. Subsequent chrome tanning results in a significant increase in chromium uptake, thus the chrome offer in conventional chrome tanning can be reduced significantly. The handle and the physical properties of pretanned crust leather are not too different from those of control crust leather. Titre : A novel approach for lightfast wet-white leather manufacture based on sulfone syntan-aluminum tanning agent combination tannage Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Zhang Long, Auteur ; Xinyu Zhao, Auteur ; Chunhua Wang, Auteur ; Wei Lin, Auteur Année de publication : 2018 Article en page(s) : p. 192-197 Note générale : Bibliogr.

Tannage Résumé : Wet-white tanning as an eco-friendly leather-making process has been attracting considerable attention. Herein, we have investigated a novel combination tannage for lightfast wet-white leather based on sulfone syntan and aluminium tanning agent. By optimizing the technology, 10% sulfone syntan and 3% aluminum tanning agent at final pH 4.0 - 4.5 can raise the shrinkage temperature (Ts) of the wet-white leather to ~81°C. The synergistic tanning mechanism of the two has been illustrated. As verified by Zeta potential measurements, the introduction of Al3+ into the sulfone syntan system led to the increase in the isoelectric point (IEP) of wet-white leather, which is favorable for the subsequent post-tanning process. Scanning electron microscope-Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) results reveal that sulfone syntan and aluminum tanning agent can be evenly bound within the leather matrix and promote the formation of tightly woven networks of collagen fibers. The novel combination tanning approach not only improves light fastness and lighter shade, but also confers high physical and mechanical properties to the wet-white leather. Tannage Résumé : A pre-tanning agent (OXD) which contains carboxyl, hydroxyl and tetra-amino groups was synthesized and applied in high exhaustion chrome tannage. This pre-tanning agent is able to react with the pendent amino groups of collagen and thus improves the hydrothermal stability when the additional carboxyl, hydroxyl and amino groups are introduced into the backbone of collagen. In the tanning process, the introduced carboxyl groups and the intrinsic carboxyl groups themselves of collagen coordinate with chromium and form uni- or multi-point bound chromium complexes, which seems to contribute to the final leather’s excellent chromium combination fastness and high chrome exhaustion. In a practical tannage, hide or skin pre-tanned with 2wt% OXD-I followed by a traditional chromium tannage, the absorption of chromium increased from 70.6% to 96.5%, and the content of Cr2O3 in the wastewater decreased from 1.76g/L to 0.16g/L. The shrinkage temperature of the leather also shifted from 104°C to 114°C. In a comparison with traditional chromium tannage, leathers pretreated with OXD followed by a chromium tannage showed good fullness and higher area yield as well as higher chromium combination fastness. Tannage Résumé : Trials described in this paper showed that Perval-10, the oxidised degradation product of valonia extract using 10 % H2O2(w/w), had a synergistic effect with Cr(III). The combination tannages using 5 7 % Perval-10 and 1.0-1.5 % Cr2O3 produced leather with shrinkage temperatures above 100°C, higher than that of the corresponding chrome tannage and a combination tannage using 15 % valonia extract. The synergistic reaction of Perval-10 and Al(III) was not as effective as with Cr(III), but still produced leather with a shrinkage temperature above 100°C, when 7 % Perval-10 was used. The tanning sequence in combination tannages using Perval-10 is not critical, perhaps due to its moderate astringency and rapid penetration rate. The vegetable tanned characterer of leathers tanned by combination tannages using Perval-10 was largely eliminated, so that the tannages are suitable for producint quality leathers similar to a chrome tannage.
