This method is successfully applied to the simultaneous identification and quantitative determination of glycolic, lactic, malic, tartaric and citric acids employing a reversed phase narrow-bore column under isocratic condition and UV detection. The method is validated by determining the precision of replicate analyses and accuracy by analyzing samples with and without adding know amount of the alpha-hydroxy acids. The procedure is suitable for routine analyses of commercial cosmetics. The electrolyte is usually in the form of chloride and sulphate and thus it is necessary to determination chloride ion and sulphate ion in tanning effluents. The determination of chloride ion and sulphate ion in leather pickling liquor is important to determine the salt’s contribution to the total salt concentration of the sewage for each process. The aim of this work is to apply LPIC (without using a suppressor column) to the quantitative determination of chloride ion and sulphate ion in pickle liquor.
Tests of precision, recovery and linear range were also conducted to evaluate the above method. The results show that the coefficients of variation are less than 4.77% or 3.76% with recoveries of 99.95% and 102.31% for chloride ion and sulphate ion respectively. Two calibration curves were obtained over the concentration range of 10 to 30 mg/L for chloride and 30 to 300 mg/L for sulphate. The detection limits of the method developed for chloride ion and sulphate ion are 0.144 and 2.853 mg/L respectively. LPIC performed without a suppressor column is shown to be suitable as a method for quantitative determination of chloride ion and sulphate ion in leather pickling liquor.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : Apparatus - Reagents and solutions - Sample preparation

Extraction (chimie)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Given the carcinogenic character of formaldehyde, it should be reliably determined in any substrate. The EN ISO 17226 Standard is the Official Method to quantify formaldehyde in leather. However, some misunderstandings may arise from the practical conditions given by the Standard for the extraction of formaldehyde. Two agitation methods (magnetic agitation and reciprocal linear agitation), which fulfill the conditions of the Standard, have been used for the extraction of formaldehyde in twenty two samples of wet-blue split leather treated with resins synthesized with formaldehyde and with/without the addition of vegetable compounds. The agitation method influences the formaldehyde content and differences between the agitation methods depend on the formaldehyde resins and vegetable compounds applied. Magnetic agitation leads to formaldehyde contents that are 26% greater than those obtained when the reciprocal linear agitation method is used. Major brands specify allowable limits for formaldehyde content, which depend on the user (adult or babies) and whether the article is in direct contact with the skin. A high percentage of disagreement (33.3%) has been observed between the agitation methods in fulfilling the allowable limits. One-third of the formaldehyde content results that fulfilled the allowable limits with the reciprocal linear agitation method failed when the magnetic method was applied. The situation urges the clarification of the shaking method in the EN ISO 17226 Standard to avoid the high level of contradictory results between methods that meet the agitation conditions of the Standard.
- Il est peu soluble dans l'eau (13 à 20 g·l-1 à 20 °C) ;
- Il est miscible avec la plupart des solvants organiques ;

Volumétrie (chimie analytique)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The content of free fatty acids was investigated by qualitative and quantitative methods. The cable-extraction method was used to test six different types of leather sample in which the dichloromethane was as extraction agent. After the extract was methyl esterified it was again extracted by petroleum ether. Then the colour and titration method were used to quantitatively analyse the extract. Meantime, the effect of different decolourisation ways on the quantitative analysis was studied. The properties of extraction products were characterized by GC-MS. The results show that the main components of free fatty acids in leather are oleic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid and some linoleic acid. When the level of ethanol in the decolourising solution is 80% to 85% the effect is, overall, better. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Materials and apparatus
