Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The development of effective anticorrosion pretreatments for metallic substrates is an issue of great importance for durability of metal structures and components. In this work for improved corrosion protection properties of sol–gel derived hybrid coatings, encapsulated corrosion inhibitors [2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) and 2-mercaptobenzimidazole (MBI)] in the presence of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) have been incorporated into hybrid coatings. Inclusion complex formation of MBI or MBT with β-CD led to encapsulated corrosion inhibitors which became active in corrosive electrolytes, and could slowly diffuse out of the host material to ensure continuous delivery of the inhibitors to corrosion sites and long-term corrosion protection. Structural characterization of the hybrid coatings were performed using EIS, SEM coupled with EDX, and FTIR. Traîtements de surfaceIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The epoxy resin coating has been widely used; however, its anticorrosion performance still needs to be improved. Basalt materials have been used as fillers in the field of anticorrosive coatings due to their good corrosion resistance and acid and alkali resistance. In this paper, 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS) was used as a coupling agent to modify the surface of basalt powder. The modified basalt powder (MBP) was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared-attenuated total reflectance (FTIR-ATR). The MBP was added to epoxy resin in different proportions as fillers, and the coatings with different MBP contents were prepared by applying the mixture on the metal substrates. The hardness of coatings can be enhanced up to 0.25 GPa with the increase in MBP, and the elastic of coatings increases to the highest of 4.97 GPa for MBP-10/EP. Their water absorption rates after soaking in water for 21 h decreased to 0.75%. Meanwhile, the anticorrosion performance of the coatings on substrates during exposure to 3.5 wt% NaCl solution was investigated by using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and the circuit-fitting of EIS tests was also performed. The corrosion resistance of EP coating has been obviously improved by adding MBP, with the low-frequency impedance value (|Z|0.01Hz) of MBP-10/EP up to 2.43 × 108 Ω·cm2 after being immersed in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution for 15 d, which was 7.8 times higher than that of neat epoxy coating (MBP-0/EP). Surfaces fonctionnellesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The anticorrosive properties of hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HDTMS) functionalized MCM-41 silica particles (MCM-41-HDTMS) incorporated into a methyltriethoxysilane (MTES) sol-gel matrix coatings were studied. The MCM-41 particles were synthesized and functionalized with HDTMS, and added to a sol composed of MTES:methanol:NH4OH 7M to create a coating. The materials synthesized with and without MCM-41-HDTMS were deposited, by dip coating, on Cu and Fe sheets, and were physically characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), contact angle, surface energy using the Owens, Wendt, Rabel, and Kaelble (OWRK) method, and by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The addition of the MCM-41-HDTMS to the MTES matrix induced an increase of the contact angle by about 10 degrees with an augment in its dispersive component, caused by a lofty deposition of long carbon chains from HDTMS over the high surface area of the MCM-41 particles, changing from hydrophobic to superhydrophobic materials with a contact angle of 155° for the Cu-MTES-HDTMS sample. EIS results show that the addition of MCM-41-HDTMS increases the charge transfer resistance providing better protection to metals. The results show that with the addition of MCM-41-HDTMS to an MTES matrix it is possible to synthesize superhydrophobic coatings capable of limiting the corrosion degradation process. Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The work reports result in improving the anticorrosive properties of a commercial epoxy coating by forming a double-layer coating structure. First, a thin (ca. 5 μm) electrically conductive polyaniline (PANI) coating was wormed directly on the carbon steel (CS) surface, on top of which a thicker (ca. 20 μm) epoxy coating was applied. The inner PANI layer was also loaded with graphene oxide (GO). The resulting anticorrosive properties of the coatings were investigated in 3.5 wt.% NaCl employing electrochemical techniques, while the surface and cross-sectional morphology of the coatings was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that the commercial epoxy coating started gradually failing several days after its exposure to the electrolyte, while it took 37 days for larger pores to appear in the PANI/epoxy coating, which then gradually continued to fail. On the other hand, the PANI-GO/epoxy coating maintained its high corrosion resistance, without forming impedance-detectable pores, over the entire testing period (two months). The excellent corrosion protection properties of the PANI-GO/epoxy coating were prescribed solely to the presence of the underlying PANI-GO layer, which represents a better barrier for the transport of hydrated corrosive ions to the CS surface, through the combined action of charge (repulsion of hydrated corrosive anions and iron oxide film formation), surface energy (hydrophobicity), and blocking mechanisms. In the membrane-forming process, the hydrophilic PHEMA chains are uniformly distributed on the surface, as revealed by the energy-dispersive X-ray tests. The sponge-like sub-layer embedded with droplet-shaped structures is formed at the cross-sections of membranes, because of the high viscosity of the casting solution. With the increase of copolymer concentration, the mean pore size of the blending membranes increases from 26.9 to 99.8 nm, leading to the increase of membrane flux from 93.6 to 205.4 l/(m2h). The incorporation of PAN-co-PHEMA copolymer endows the blending membrane with a rough surface microstructure and enhanced hydrophilicity. The rejection ratio of membranes for emulsified pump oil reaches 99.9%, indicating a prominent separation performance. In the cycle permeation experiments, the flux recovery ratio of the blending membranes is as high as 99.6%, which is much higher than those of PAN membrane. The irreversible fouling of blending membranes induced by oil adsorption is alleviated, and converted into reversible fouling, owing to the reduction of the adhesion force between foulant and membrane surface. These results suggest that the anti-fouling property of PAN membranes has been dramatically strengthened via the addition of PAN-co-PHEMA copolymer.
