Solvants -- Suppression ou remplacementIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Low solubility and undesirable denaturation in conventional solvents continue to represent a significant challenge for efficient extraction, accurate characterization and versatile processing of collagen. In the present study, a room temperature ionic liquid (IL), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([BMIM]Ac), was synthesized, and then evaluated as an alternative solvent for type I collagen. Real-time polarizing optical microscope observation indicated complete disintegration of hierarchical structure of collagen aggregates as solubilized in [BMIM]Ac at 25°C. The solubility reached up to approximately 8.0 wt.% at 25°C, more than ten times higher than that in conventional dilute acetic acid. In comparison with dilute acetic acid and recently reported chloridion ILs, high solubility of collagen in [BMIM]Ac at room temperature was ascribed to loose binding between [BMIM]+ and acetate, as well as stronger proton-accepting ability of [BMIM]Ac, which enabled rupture of those intermolecular hydrogen bonds and ionic bonds that stabilized collagen aggregates. However, such bond-rupturing effect was found selective at room temperature. As demonstrated by Fourier transform infrared, circular dichroism, atomic force microscope, and ultrasensitive differential scanning calorimetry analysis, [BMIM]Ac did not destroy the special triple-helical structure of tropocollagen molecules that had been identified as being of importance for the functional and bioactive properties of collagen. According to these results, the discovery of [BMIM]Ac as an ideal solvent for collagen may open up new possibilities for the chemistry and engineering of collagen, which has long been established as a readily accessible and renewable resource with many unique properties. Spectrométrie de masseIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : An analytical approach was developed for the simultaneous determination of the eight ethylene glycol ethers (EGEs) and esters (EGEEs) prohibited by European Union (EU) REACH regulation in leather samples. The analytes were extracted using methanol with ultrasonic assistance within 30 minutes. The extracts were cleaned up by passing the extraction solution through a cartridge containing alumina-N frits, and the eluate was injected into GC-MS which was fitted with a 60m length capillary DB-WAX column. Excellent separation of the eight EGEs/EGEEs was achieved by the capillary column within 25 minutes. The clean-up with Alumina-N cartridge presented desired efficiency for removing the co-extractives in the extracts. The major advantages of this method are the simplicity and accuracy. Limitation of the detection, linear range, and reproducibility of the method were evaluated. Average recoveries in the range of 91.7%-102.5% (RSD, <6.1 0/0) with detection limits at 3.09.4mg/kg for the eight targets were obtained. Analytical results showed that ethylene glycol dimethyl ether (EGDME), ethylene glycol ethyl ether (EGEE), and diethylene glycol dimethyl ether (DEGDME), were found in 22% of 95 leather samples at the concentration range of 35-82mg/kg, 12-285mg/kg and 28-66mg/kg, respectively, while the other five EGEs/EGEEs were not detected. The binder was modified with granite powder in amounts ranging from 10% to 60% in relation to the weight of the resin. Moreover, a coating was made without the addition of the granite powder in order to compare the obtained results. Previously obtained pull-off test results were also analyzed. The obtained results confirmed that the optimal material solution includes 10% or 20% of granite powder by weight. Additionally, chemical and microstructural analysis was also performed for both the reference sample and the sample modified with 20% of granite powder. The article also presents an explanation of the reasons for such an improvement of pull-off strength, which is based on careful analysis of the adhesive properties of the epoxy resin bonding agent modified with waste granite powder. Moreover, it explains how granite powder particles penetrate into the near-surface layer of the substrate, examines the porosity of the near-surface layer of the substrate using microstructural analysis, and presents the effect of adding waste granite powder to the epoxy resin bonding agent on the chemical properties of the near-surface layer of the substrate.
