Vinyle sulfonate de sodiumIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In order to design a low VOC VeoVa based latex with a high scrub resistance, the latex needs preferably to be a terpolymer stabilised by surfactant with functional sulphonate based monomer and silane based monomer. Note that some low amount of colloid is also possible as long as it does not increase significantly the particle size of the latex. Moreover, the latex should be preferably formulated with unsaturated non-ionic surfactant and therefore it needs to be prepared with a monomer pre-emulsion using a minimum of anionic surfactant. The temperature of polymerisation should be as low as possible.
Based on this, a new VA/VeoVa 10/BA (70/20/10) surfactant stabilised latex has been prepared and has demonstrated a higher washability resistance and wet abrasive scrub resistance compared to a conventional surfactant-stabilised terpolymer latex at 80% PVC interior matt paint (figures 10 and 11).
Finally, this new VeoVa-based terpolymer has been formulated in an exterior matt paint formulation at 40% PVC.
The wet abrasive scrub resistance has been measured and demonstrates the improved scrub resistance of the new terpolymer as seen in figure 12.
Alkali resistance of the exterior paint has been determined using an in-house early efflorescence test. As it can been seen in figure 13, the efflorescence resistance of the VeoVa terpolymer is quite close to a commercial all-acrylic and far better than the one observed for the other commercial latices evaluated.
In conclusion, the VeoVa 10-based terpolymer has clearly demonstrated a higher scrub resistance than the conventional VeoVa 10 based terpolymer. It can be used in interior and exterior paint formulations on alkali substrates.En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/17FMCiR8yj9XQCaD2TyU7f3_5OVorT5ok/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=11968

Revêtements en bâtiment:Peinture en bâtimentIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The trend for more colourful façades, coupled with the growth of point-of-sale tinting, bas led to increasing issues for paint manufacturers in terms of surfactant leaching or exudation, especially with higher-build, semi-flexible coatings that are naturally binder-rich, due to the high levels of surfactants present in medium and deep tone paints.
OMNOVA Solutions has developed an innovative solution for formulation of masonry coatings with excellent resistance to exudation and efflorescence. This new environmentally friendly binder incorporates technology that minimises the amount of water soluble materials that can leach from the coating, and so significantly reduces the possibility of unattractive surface staining occurring under certain unfavourable drying conditions.
Additionally, the Low Exudation Binder bas all the advantages of current best-in-class resins for masonry coatings, and has built-in flexibility that gives it more versatility in terms of application, extending its use to formulation of semi-flexible coatings, where crack-bridging ability is a requirement.Note de contenu : - INTRODUCTION : Surfactants in coatings - Problems associated with 'free' surfactants (a. exudation, b. efflorescence)

Revêtements intérieurs:Peinture intérieureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : An acrylic binder, which meets proposed requirements, regarding reduced levels of residual monomers and biocides, has been developed that also keeps indoor air quality as fresh as possible, as the author explains.
The increasing demand for more environmentally friendly interior paints is going hand—in-hand with more strict regulations of Volatile Organic Compounds, VOCs, Semi Volatile Organic Compounds, S-VOCs and biocides in the final products. The proposed new requirements of Ecolabel states that the total level of residual monomers in polymers may not be more than 100ppm. Furthermore, there is a discussion about reducing the allowed amount of 2-methy1- 2H-isothiazol-3-one, MIT, to be used to 15 ppm.
As a producer of waterborne polymer binders for indoor paints we have to consider ail these proposais and discussions. Therefore, an acrylic binder, which meets even the proposed requirements regarding reduced levels of residual monomers and biocides, has been developed.Note de contenu : - Low MFFT is needed for low VOC and S-VOC
- Low residual monomers for fresh indoor air quality
