We focus on an equimolar aqueous solution of cetylpyridinium chloride – sodium salicylate, which in simple shear flow exhibits a shear thinning, and at higher shear rates, a pronounced shear-thickening behavior associated with the formation of shear bands [1–6]. An ultrasound Doppler velocimetry method is used to detect these shear bands in pipe flow. The emitted ultrasonic beam is scattered by the moving sample and the time delay between emitted pulse and received echoes as well as the frequency shift is determined. This Doppler shift is related to the speed and the direction of the moving scatters and with this information, the velocity profile across the pipe is calculated [7]. The shape of the obtained velocity profile is used to determine the flow properties of the sample and the formation of shear bands at the tube's wall or within the bulk phase. For the investigated solution we do not observe shear band phenomena. This is contrary to previous investigations [5, 6, 8] where shear bands in the order of few tenth of a millimeter were found. Our results suggesting that the banded region is not detectable by the utilized UVP technique. Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=5438

Note de contenu : - Materials

Teinture -- Fibres textilesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : This study reviews the need and importance of non-aqueous dyeing systems in the chemical processing industry, especially using the reverse micellar system in the dyeing of natural fibres. When it comes to conventional dyeing systems, which use large quantities of water, chemical, and energy, cause a lot of effluent load to the environment. Again the effluent water has to be treated well to eliminate all the harmful substances in it. To overcome the issues, a lot of research has been carried out in this area to minimise the use of water and chemicals in the dyeing process. Like use of low material to liquor ratio (M:L) in dyeing, dyes with high fixation at lower temperatures, low/salt less dyeing in case of reactive dyeing with cotton, cottonseed oil dyeing, microwave-assisted dyeing, and use of supercritical carbon dioxide in case of polyester dyeing and many more. All the above said methods are aqueous-based and, after the completion of dyeing, results in wastewater generation, which requires further treatment to reduce the harmful chemicals. Therefore, to further minimise the use of water and chemicals in the dyeing of natural fibres reverse micellar system has been introduced with the help of surfactants of both Ionic and nonionic in nature. As of today, a lot of work has been carried out in the dyeing of natural fibres with this system by employing ionic, nonionic, and mixed surfactants. Fascinating results were obtained in the dyeing with good levelness, high exhaustion, and fixation values, and results were compared with conventional dyeing. Computer colour matching studies were also done better to understand the applicability of these systems in the industry and found nearer results. Note de contenu : - Nonionic reverse micellar system

SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : Copper soaps have been prepared from fresh and used sesame oils. The formation of copper soaps has been confirmed by spectral technique. Micellar characterization of copper soaps has been studied by density, viscosity and ultrasonic measurements. The apparent molar volume and apparent molar compressibility have been enumerated at constant temperature using these data. The results were used to determine the critical micelle concentration (CMC), soap-solvent interaction. The results of apparent molar volume were discussed in terms of Masson's equation and the results of viscosity data have been discussed in terms of Jones-Dole equation. The CMC values are found to increase with decrease in average molecular weight of the soap. It has been observed that there is a decrease in soap-solvent interaction with the decrease in average molecular weight of copper soap.

OxydationIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : Oxidation of organic molecule by metal is very important. Selective oxidants require non aqueous media, which is toxic and hazardous. L-methionine is oxidized to industrially important methyl thiol in micellar media by chromic acid. The overall reaction follows a first order dependency on substrate and hexavalent chromium and second order dependency on hydrogen ion. Here, reverse micelle formation is observed. TX-100 increases the rate where as SDS retards the rate of oxidation.
