Structures multicouchesIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Novel kinds of magnetism-driven poly N,N-dimethylacrylamide bilayer intelligent hydrogels with various nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) contents were prepared successfully via one-step insitu free radical polymerization. The bilayer hydrogels possessed high mechanical strength, efficient swelling and steady magnetic response. With the increase of nanofibrillated cellulose content, the crosslinking density of the hydrogels increased, leading to the decrease of swelling rate and increase of mechanical strength and swelling bending degree of hydrogel actuators, respectively. Fe3O4 particles existed tightly on the micropore surfaces of the hydrogels, which built the function base of magnetic response of hydrogel actuators. The addition of Fe3O4 was irrelevant to the variation of crosslinking density. The bilayer structure exhibited high bonding strength. Based on intelligent responsive properties, bilayer hydrogels were designed as soft magnetism-driven actuators, realizing capture and transportation properties and provided material candidates for soft robots. Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The effect of screw rotation speed on the mechanical property and thermal conductivity of polycarbonate (PC)/vapor-grown carbon fiber (VGCF) composites prepared by a twin screw extruder was discussed in this paper. Two types of VGCF (VGCF-H, the aspect ratio of 40, and VGCF-S, the aspect ratio of 100) were used. In the tensile test, the breaking pattern of PC composite changed to brittle failures by adding VGCF-H irrespective of screw rotation speed. Young's modulus of PC/VGCF-H slightly increased with the screw rotation speed. On the other hands, the breaking strain of PC/VGCF drastically decreased above 150 min?1. Young's modulus of PC/VGCF-S slightly increased with screw rotation speed until 150 min?1, however, it decreased at 175 min?1. The thermal conductivity of PC/VGCF-H was independent of the screw rotation speed. In contrast, the thermal conductivity of PC/VGCF-S gradually increased with screw rotation speed until 150 min?1 and it also decreased at 175 min?1. From the SEM observation and rheological behavior, the dispersion state of VGCF-H in PC/VGCF-H was independent of the screw rotation speed. On the other hands, the network structures of VGCF-S were observed in PC/VGCF-S and the state of these network structures depended on the screw rotation speed. It was clarified that the mechanical property and thermal conductivity of PC/VGCF were attributable to the dispersion state of VGCF. Note de contenu : - Mechanical property and thermal conductivity

Tannage Résumé : A variety of tanning agents are used to produce leather of different mechanical performances and properties. How different tanning agents affect the structure of leather, and consequently the mechanism underlying the performance of the differently tanned leathers, is not well understood. We used small-angle X-ray scattering to investigate the structure of ovine leather tanned with chromium, zirconium, mimosa, oxazolidine or tetrakis hydroxymethyl phosphonium sulfate (THPS), or selected pairs of these agents. Leather tanned using THPS and THPS in combination with mimosa retained the most oriented collagen fibril structure. Treatment with chromium, zirconium or zirconium and mimosa resulted in the least oriented fibril structures. The effect of oxazolidine with mimosa was intermediate between these. A high natural collagen fibril orientation in a skin is normally associated with high strength while a high degree of crosslinking normally results in a lower fibril orientation. We suggest that the extent of crosslinking in the samples is reflected in their fibril orientation, with more crosslinking producing stronger leathers. This interpretation is supported by the differences in shrinkage temperatures: those leathers for which orientation index (a measure of collagen fibril alignment) changed most had a lower shrinkage temperature (which is normally interpreted as more “tanning”). This provides a greater understanding of the mechanism of action of tanning agents in the development of the properties of leather.
