We conducted the evaluation tests for damage detection in CFRP pressure bulkheads using fibers Braggs grating (FBG) sensors and verified the dammage detection ability and accuracy of FBG sensors on various modes of damages and deformation. As a result, damages and deformation can be detected as the changes in strain distribution measured by FBG sensors. Moreover, these changes agree well with numerical simulation. These results demonstrate that the strain mapping by FBG sensors can be used for damage detection of the CFRP pressure bulkhead. Surfaces -- AnalyseIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The paper discusses the impact of drawing poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fibers in the presence of solvents, which consist of the first five homologues of aliphatic primary alcohols, namely methanol to amyl alcohol. The solvent induced deformation under tensile load leads to surface fissures characterized by four stages: fissure formation (birth), incipient draw (neck formation), partial draw, and full draw. This process results in internal void formation in the presence of a propagating neck. A design of experiment (DOE) was performed to screen out the process parameters critical for understanding surface fissure formation. Four process parameters were investigated: initial material properties (orien„tation) ; environment of draw (i.e. type of alcohols used as solvent) ; rate of extension ; and amount of extension. The response of solvent induced deformation were characterized by the natural draw force reduction ; number of fissures formed at time of birth, fissure width at time of formation, and neck angle. Of all the four process parameters involved, the analysis indicates that the material properties and amount of extension were the best predictors of solvent induced fissure formation. Organic solvents reduce the tension required for draw and create internal voids, a porous network, with possibly the penetrant being "sucked" into the interior of PET fibers drawn in the presence of alcohols. Déformations (mécanique)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Upstone and ward have shown that, in the region of strains below 2% shoe upper leathers frequently have a low elastic modulus, which is much smaller than that for greater extensions. This is likely to be advantageous, because it permits a shoe to take up the shape of the foot without undue pressure, and yet resist deformations large enough to cause unsightliness and loss of shape.
Experiments show that the shape of the stress/strain curve if frequently (and perhaps always) due to stresses in different layers of an unstrained leather, the grain layer being usually in tension when the leather if flat, and the corium and flesh in compression. Any leather strip which does not have this characteristic can be given it by suitable heat 'setting', such that an unstressed flat strip of the leather is left with its grain permanently in tension. Whether the 'steps' of the stress/strain curves are sufficiently large to be of practical importance is not clear. It is possible that heat setting during shoe making relaxes any differential stresses otherwise present, and that the steps consequently disappear in the made up shoe.Note de contenu : - Elastic and plastic changes of length

Polyamide 6
Simulation par ordinateurIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : The aim of this paper is to determine the reason for the large warpage of an injection molded chunky part made of glass fiber reinforced polyamide 6. State of the art commercial 3D injection molding simulation software was used to predict the warpage of the part. While the simulation predicted a product virtually free of warpage the molded parts showed a large deformation. Several molding experiments and X-ray computed tomography (?CT) scans of the moldings have been performed to figure out the reason for this. The ?CT scans revealed voids in the thick walls of the part. It was found that these defects were the main cause of the unreliable simulation results. Therefore it is concluded that voids can have a major influence on the reliability of numerical warpage predictions. This paper shows a simplified method to determine the zones were voids will appear and shows the comparison with ?CT-data. Note de contenu : - PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
