UN-rated steel pails for the packaging of adhesives and sealants / Afzal M. Awan in ADHESIVES & SEALANTS INDUSTRY (ASI), Vol. 22, N° 8 (08/2015)
[article]

In the printing industry, lamination of plastic films is done on specialized high-speed machines that require close control of adhesive viscosity. Resins that are applied to fiber textiles and mats to make composite prepregs require exact staging of the matrix resin. Note de contenu : - Rheometers vs. viscometers

Index. décimale : 667.6 Peintures Résumé : The application of solvent-based paints and water-based paints by spraying is extensively used in the automotive industry both to protect metallic parts and to provide a desirable aesthetic appearance for the vehicle. This operation is a significant source of solid waste (paint sludge), liquid waste (booth water) and, when solvent-based paints are used, also volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Paint sludge represents an important problem both from a managerial and from an environmental point of view owing to its huge volumes and hazardous characteristics. This paper aims to provide an overview of the processes developed over the last twenty years to treat automotive paint siudge in order to recover useful products from the waste or reuse it in the industry of sealants, paints and building materials. The application properties viz. ease of application ; flow, leveling, sagging, etc and shelf stability of the putty fillers are governed by its rheology. In the present study, application properties and shelf stability of six putty samples (premium, economic, and low cost grade) were studied using rheometer. Flow curve, three interval thixotrophic test (3ITT), oscillatory amplitude sweep and frequency sweep tests were carried out. Yield point and high shear viscosity was correlated with ease of application. Viscosity after recovery and loss factor (Tan ?) was correlated with flow, leveling, sagging and shelf life of the putty fillers. Above results were finally compared with actual application of putty fillers on metal substrate. Note de contenu : - MATERIALS

The new silicone technology developed at Tremco utilizes a polymeric reinforcing technique. It has allowed the minimization of several shortcomings like short tooling time and the tendency to stain and pick up dirt without compromising other performance properties. As a result there has been a very positive response from the field and end users. It has given rise to a new family of silicone products that are easy to use and well suited for a variety of substrates like EIFS, Dryvit, marble, stone, granite, brick, concrete, etc. Note de contenu : - New technical approach
