Tannage Résumé : Acrylic-acrylic long-chain ester amphiphilic copolymers are a class of leather retanning and fatliquoring materials with superior properties. However, these types of copolymers lack reactive groups and possess weak binding ability to organically-tanned leather. In this paper, a terpolymer Poly(AA-LA-GMA) containing reactive epoxy groups was prepared by emulsion copolymerisation of acrylic acid (AA), dodecyl acrylate (LA) and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) monomers. The effect of the GMA content on its binding ability to leather fibres and its fatliquoring properties was investigated. The results showed that the introduction of the epoxy group can significantly improve the combination of copolymer with glutaraldehyde-tanned leather. When the content of GMA monomer reached 10% of the total monomer amount (mol), the dichloromethane extraction rate and fogging value of the fatliquored leather were reduced by about 34% and 53%, respectively. And the excellent binding ability improved the softness and tear strength of the fatliquored leather.

Glycosidases have been used in leather making processes to reduce pollutants and improve leather quality. But the selection of glycosidases is still blind because the related mechanisms are not well understood yet. Hence, the animal skin structures and glycoconjugates components, the advances in the methods and mechanisms of removing glycoconjugates related to unhairing and fiber opening-up in leather manufacture, the kinds, compositions, structures and functions of typical glycoconjugates in skin are summarized. Then the approaches to destroy them, possible glycosidases suitable for leather making and their acting sites are analyzed based on the recognition of glycoconjugates in skin and the specificities of glycosidases toward substrates. It is expected to provide useful information for the optimization of glycosidases and the development of new enzymes and the cleaner technologies of unhairing and opening up fiber bundles assisted by glycosidases.
(Wikipedia)

However, the characterization of the degradation degree of elastin in skins and leathers was mostly studied through histological analysis qualitatively. There is an urgent need to develop a more efficient quantitative analytical strategy to evaluate the degradation of elastin in leather making processes. In this study, a simple and rapid HPLC method is developed for measuring elastin degradation in skins, leathers and leather processing liquors through determining the biological markers of elastin, namely desmosines. The separation of analytes was conducted on an C18 column (4.6 × 150 mm, 4.0 μm) at 30 ℃; the wavelength of diode array detector (DAD) was set at 275 nm; the mobile phases were composed of methanol and aqueous acetic acid (2.0 %, v/v). A gradient elution was carried out at a flow rate of 0.5 mL/min. It has been witnessed that Cr (III) has no effect on the retention time and peak area of desmosines, when the concentration of Cr (III) was in the range of 0 to 200 mg/L. In quantitative analysis, all of the calibration curves showed good linear regression (R2 ≥ 0.9990) within the tested ranges, and the recovery of desmosines was 100.9 % and 102.6 % for elastin hydrolysate and Cr-tanned elastin hydrolysate, respectively. The content of desmosines in elastin fiber, Cr-tanned elastin fiber and leather manufacturing liquors measured by established HPLC-DAD were comparable to the results obtained by amino acid analyzer. In the wet blue bating process, the quantitative analysis results are consistent with the histological staining results. The results demonstrate that the developed method is accurate and effective and can be readily utilized for the comprehensive process control of leather manufacturing.

Taille des poresIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The degree of proteoglycan removal from animal hides is closely related to the opening-up of collagen fibers and the properties of leather, but conventional leather-making processes are not very effective at removing proteoglycans. By rationally selecting and utilizing glycosidases during the leather-making process, proteoglycans can be efficiently removed without causing collagen damage due to glycosidases specifically hydrolyzing glycosidic bonds. In spite of this, glycosidases are highly specific and come in a wide variety of types. To solve the blindness of optimizing glycosidases and its application in the soaking process, in this study, seven typical commercial glycosidases capable of hydrolyzing β-glycosidic bonds were selected according to the types of major glycosidic bonds in animal hide proteoglycans. The basic properties of the selected glycosidases and its effectiveness in removing proteoglycans from the hide during the soaking process were investigated. Then, the effects of the dosage of the two optimal glycosidases on the dissolution of polysaccharide, total soluble protein and hydroxyproline, as well as the properties of leather during the soaking process were further studied. The results showed that although the optimal pH of the selected glycosidases was between pH 5 - 7, they maintained more than 50% of their activity under weak alkaline conditions and could be applied to the soaking process. The removal of proteoglycan by different glycosidases is closely related to their specificity for glycosidic bonds, and the penetrability of the enzyme proteins, namely the molecular weight and isoelectric point of the enzymes. Among them, β-Mannase-AKT and Xylanase-AKT are more effective in removing proteoglycans. When the dosage of β-Mannase-AKT and Xylanase-AKT reached 47 U/mL, almost all the glycosaminoglycan was removed from the hide, the opening-up of collagen fibers and the softness and physical properties of the crust leather were significantly improved without damage to the structural proteins. Vêtements en cuirIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Intangible cultural heritage is an important symbol of a nation’s historical and cultural achievements, containing rich connotations and high artistic value. Leather products, as a significant component of modern fashion, have a wide range of market demand. To address the issues of traditional patterns in intangible cultural heritage not matching modern aesthetics and lacking application scenarios, this study takes leather products as carriers and proposes an innovative design paradigm for traditional clothing patterns. We chose the Miao cross-stitch patterns of Guizhou, China, as a case study. Analyzed their subject connotations, common structures and features. Using split grammar and shape grammar, the patterns are deconstructed and reassembled to obtain foundational innovative patterns. The Mean-shift clustering algorithm was applied to extract the classic colors of Miao cross-stitch patterns. Based on fractal theory and computer algorithms, a novel pattern model for Miao cross-stitch was proposed, incorporating representative patterns and colors to complete pattern designs. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed approach was validated through the practical design of leather fashion accessories on the Style 3D platform. This study aims to provide methodological references for the modernization and innovation of intangible cultural heritage, as well as the diverse integration of leather products design.
