In recent times, interest has increased in introducing smart properties to natural leather, giving it practical and economic importance. Recently, finishing, the purpose of which is to produce different leather types to meet consumer requirements has become focused on giving the leather properties that make it an advanced material with smart applications. The aim of this work is to produce superior quality leather that would upgrade its value in performance via nano metal oxide treatment. This aim has been followed by synthesising zinc oxide nanoparticles via green chemistry which is then loaded into sheep leather. The structural and morphological properties of the synthesised zinc oxide nanoparticles have been investigated by SEM and XRD. The SEM, EDX, infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) study, and tensile properties determination were undertaken, to see if any significant structural or chemical differences could be detected between ʻuntreatedʼ and ʻtreatedʼ leather. From the various analyses, it was ascertained that the nanoparticles were successfully deposited on the leather surface. The study thus provides an eco-friendly method for zinc oxide nanoparticle synthesis which can then be utilised for finishing sheep leather for creating functional properties. Polyméthacrylate d'hydroxyéthyle
Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : 2-Hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) has been graft copolymerized onto chrome-tanned leather using benzoyl peroxide in methanol as the initiator. The influence of synthesis variables, including monomer concentration, initiator selection and temperature, have been investigated. As the graft polymerization of HEMA onto chrome-
tanned leather was increased, water absorption was reduced and tensile strength and elongation at break improved.
FT-IR spectroscopic analysis of ungrafted and grafted leather showed a band at 1735 cm-1 corresponding to the carbonyl of the ester of acrylate (HEMA), while subsequent SEM analysis revealed a decrease in the porosity of the leather surface as a result of the graft polymerization.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES :

Résistance des matériauxIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The cardanol grafted onto polypropylene (CAPP) was prepared by reactive extrusion with polypropylene (PP) and natural renewable cardanol, which could improve the inherent defects of PP such as chemical inertness and hydrophobicity. Moreover, the cardanol grafted onto PP could resolve the degradation of PP during the process of reactive extrusion, storage and application. In this paper, the yield strength, tensile strength, elongation at break of modified and unmodified PPs were tested during the aging process. A possible aging mechanim of PP and anti-aging mechanism of cardanol grafted onto PP were proposed. Results showed that the initiator dicumyl peroxide caused the degradation of PP chains during the aging processing. After being aged for 24 h, the yield strength CAPP0 decreased from 28 MPa to 15 MPa and the elongation at break reduced by 795%. CAPPs possessed outstanding anti-aging performance owing to the cross-linking and entanglement of the side chains of cardanol grafted onto PP. The yield strength, tensile strength and the elongation at break of CAPP5 changed lightly even when it was in long-term irradiation for 480 h. The CAPPs had better anti-aging properties than the mixture of PP and 5% of cardanol. CAPP containing 3% of cardanol could effectively prevent the degradation of the main chain polypropylene.
