Economical protection with waterborne epoxy-amine / Françoise Heine in EUROPEAN COATINGS JOURNAL (ECJ), N° 5 (05/2015)
[article]
Titre : Economical protection with waterborne epoxy-amine : New aqueous epoxy formulations reduce costs without sacrificing performance Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Françoise Heine, Auteur Année de publication : 2015 Article en page(s) : p. 18-23 Note générale : Bibliogr.

ThermogravimétrieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The present work addresses the critical requirements for the coating industry such as developing the sustainability of biobased materials and simultaneously achieving a balanced combination of coating properties. In this study, acrylated epoxidized soybean oil (AESO) has been successfully synthesized from epoxidized soybean oil and acrylic acid. Subsequently, AESO was modified using a biobased long chain diacid (Pripol-1009) with the assistance of a water/ethanol blend to form waterborne epoxy acrylate (WBEA). The properties of the cured WBEA with 2,5-bis(tert-butylperoxy)-2,5-dimethylhexane as initiator were studied through spectral analysis, coating properties evaluation, corrosion resistance, and morphological and thermal analysis. The results revealed that WBEA exhibited relatively better mechanical, thermal and corrosion resistance characteristics over cured waterborne epoxy.

Tripolyphosphate de sodiumIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this work, h-BN@STPP was successfully obtained by facile co-modification of sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) and silane coupling agent (KH-550) on h-BN nanosheets, with waterborne epoxy coatings incorporated for metallic substrate corrosion protection. Results showed that the impedance modulus at the lowest frequency (Zf = 0.1 Hz) of h-BN@STPP composite coating increased three orders of magnitude in comparison with neat waterborne epoxy coating, exhibiting outstanding corrosion resistance. The reinforced anticorrosion performances of h-BN@STPP composite coatings could be attributed to the “labyrinth effect” of h-BN and passivation effect of STPP on the metal substrates.

Phosphate de zincIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Zinc phosphate coating is widely used for corrosion protection of metallic materials, mainly mild steel. In the present study, the effect of pretreatment with copper acetate solution on zinc phosphate layer properties was investigated via scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The corrosion resistance of the coating was evaluated using polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in an aerated 3.5% NaCl solution. The pretreatment resulted in a compact and uniform phosphate coating with smaller crystal size and greater surface coverage. Electrochemical results showed better corrosion resistance for the pretreated phosphate layer compared with the untreated one. Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this study, a series of ZnAl layered double hydroxide (ZnAl-LDH) thin films were synthesized on an AA6082 alloy by a single-step hydrothermal process at different synthesis parameters, including reaction temperature, reaction time, pH, and the relation between the LDH structural variations, and the corresponding corrosion resistance properties are briefly reported. The as-prepared synthetic coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The corresponding corrosion properties were evaluated through potentiodynamic polarization curves and through electrochemical impedance spectra. The findings demonstrated that synthesis parameter variations impart an influential effect on the geometry of LDH, film thickness, and structural morphologies which have a significant impact on LDH corrosion resistance properties. The ZnAl-LDH corrosion resistance was found to increase with respect to extended high temperature and aging time, while the synthetic pH conditions also promoted LDH growth and film thickness, relative to lower-pH reaction conditions. The optimization results are attributed to high ZnAl-LDH corrosion resistance and act as a strong barrier film and ion-exchange surface area. The ZnAl-LDH films at 80°C-18r-6.5pH have shown much lower corrosion current density compared to bare AA6082, and a decrease of up to five orders of magnitude is observed.
