Recycling waste chrome shavings is carried out in a clean, simple, low-consumption manner inspired by the technology of solid wood particle board in the furniture industry, thus making high value products. This paper prepared bonded leather (BL) using CR adhesive and a vulcanising machine, the BL prepared had gond gas permeability, water absorption, and adequate tensile strength, the optimal hot-pressing conditions and formulae used were: (1) latex ratio 20%, 70°C, 5 minutes and 3MPa; (2) latex ratio 23%, 80°C, 4 minutes and 3MPa; (3) latex ratio 18%, 80°C, 5 minutes and 6MPa. Tannage Résumé : Hair waste is recognized as a solid waste generated after a hair-saving unhairing process in leather technology, and it is produced in large amounts in Buenos Aires province, Argentine. The present method for this solid waste is disposal, which is environmentally troublesome and costly for the tanneries. Biodegradation of hair waste by keratinolytic microorganisms represents an alternative for bioconversion of keratin waste. This paper reports the optimization of keratinases production by Purpureocillium lilacinum LPS # 876. Firstly, one factor-at-a-time method was used to investigate the effect of nitrogen-sources, metal ions concentration in the basal mineral medium, as well as, initial pH and temperature on enzyme production. Medium composition for the keratinases production by P. lilacinum was optimized using two statistical methods: Plackett-Burman design and central composite design -combined with response surface methodology- used to optimize three significant variables: initial pH, glucose and CaCl2. The optimal conditions were determined as 7.10 g l-1 of glucose; 0.0065 mg l-1 of CaCl2 and initial pH of 5.60; at this condition the maximum keratinase yield predicted was 26.7 U ml-1. The model validation showed that it described adequately the influence of glucose and calcium concentration and initial pH on enzyme production. Production of keratinases by P. lilacinum is a less-exploited field that might represent a novel and promising biotechnological application for this microorganism. Water consumption from raw to the end of deliming process is about 10-12 litres per kg of salted hide, a value which increases in calves and small skins. This process contributes 83% of BOD5, 73% of COD, 60% of suspended solids and 75% of the salinity of the complete process. From the organoleptic point of view the beamhouse processing steps contribute negatively to a tannery's image, mostly because of sulphides. The idea of an alternative oxidative beamhouse process is to recover proteins, reduce the environmental impact of the tannery and generate new opportunities of useful clean by-products, while at the same time reducing the bad smell. This paper considers some practical issues on the industrial implementation of a sulphide free beamhouse process that aims for total water recycling, and the generation of useful by-products. Keratin, the main structural constituent of hair proteins, is highly resistant to degradation and their disposal is of environmental concern. The aim of this study was to develop conditions favorable for the degradation of bovine hair in a composting environment as an environmentally friendly option for the management of solid tannery hair waste. The thermophilic optimum temperature, 40 – 50°C, moisture content 55%, pH 7.0 and a carbon to nitrogen ratio of 35:1 were found to be favorable to sustain metabolic functions of thermophilic microbial flora, responsible for degrading keratins. The biodegradation and structural transformation of the substrate was assessed using scanning electron microscopy. The results show that under these conditions the bovine hair lost most of its integral structural stability and that the cuticular components were more resistant to degradation. The compost stability as evaluated by monitoring the degree of humification and carbon to nitrogen ratio indicated that the final product achieved reasonable stability by attaining 73% degree of humification, 26% humification rate and carbon to nitrogen ratio of 29:1. Hence the composting technology used in this study has a potential application in the leather industry for the production of an economically viable product. SiliceLa silice est la forme naturelle du dioxyde de silicium (SiO2) qui entre dans la composition de nombreux minéraux.
La silice existe à l'état libre sous différentes formes cristallines ou amorphes et à l'état combiné dans les silicates, les groupes SiO2 étant alors liés à d'autres atomes (Al : Aluminium, Fe : Fer, Mg : Magnésium, Ca : Calcium, Na : Sodium, K : Potassium...).
Les silicates sont les constituants principaux du manteau et de l'écorce terrestre. La silice libre est également très abondante dans la nature, sous forme de quartz, de calcédoine et de terre de diatomée. La silice représente 60,6 % de la masse de la croûte terrestre continentale.Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Nanoporous silica has been successfully synthesized using hide powder as a template. The nanoporous silica possessed micropores and/or mesopores and a large specific surface area of over 900m2-1. It was found from the results of N2 adsorption - desorption isotherm measurements that the pH value of the synthesis mixtures mainly affected the pore structure and the surface area of nanoporous silica. Moreover, from the results of SEM observations, this nanoporous silica, regardless of the synthesis conditions, was composed of fibrous silica, which resembled the collagen fibril structure.
