ZincIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Climate changes caused by global warming and the greenhouse effect are likely to produce even more corrosive conditions in the future because higher temperatures accelerate corrosion, and greater concentrations of carbon dioxide will increase carbonation rates and the acidity of rainfall. Corrosin is responsible for the failure of many systems and structures. Unchecked, it can result in excessive maintenance and repairs as well as system downtime and product contamination. RevêtementsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In the battery industry, very thin primer layers are used to improve electrode adhesion on substrates or act as blocker layers to prevent corrosion in case of aqueous cathodes. For these material configurations, high-speed coating is mandatory to ensure the economic viability of the process. One way to realize high-speed coating is a set-up including a slot die and a vacuum box to stabilize the coating bead. Knowledge and prediction of the coating window of thin wet film thicknesses is crucial to design the production process. Therefore, the influence of coating gap and viscosity of shear-thinning fluids on the coating window is investigated with the help of various model fluids. In addition, a prediction model for the calculation of the coating window for high-speed slot-die coating with vacuum box is developed. This model is shown to be valid for the prediction of the coating window for the investigated material systems and coating gaps over the investigated range of coating speeds up to 500 m min−1. For a material system, which corresponds to a real material system for adhesive primer coatings, it is possible to reach a target wet film thickness of 20–25 µm. This would correspond to a layer thickness of 0.5 µm for a solid content of 2–2.5 wt%. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL METODS AND MATERIALS : Slurry preparation -

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Recently, two-component (2K) Michael Addition-based coating systems providing fast drying at room temperature in combination with tunable open time and very long pot life have entered the market. Adhesion robustness over a variety of substrates is an important point of attention for such fast drying and inherently rather apolar coating systems. Here, we present a study that resulted in new malonated polyester resins facilitating a significantly improved adhesion performance of the Michael Addition-based coatings, especially over epoxy-amine and polyurethane primer substrates. Notably, the introduction of hydroxyl groups is an effective way to improve properties such as wet adhesion. ThermométrieIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The pultrusion process in an effective way to process composites, however several drawbacks that reduce the competitiveness of pultruded profiles in comparaison to traditional materials still need to be addressed. On the one hand, the process is limited by the time required to polymerize the resin inside the die, which results in a low-speed process. On the other hand, when a coating is needed to improve surface properties, the surface of this profile must be carefully prepared off-line, requiring additional sanding and painting steps that are expensive, highly labour-intensive and polluting. Note de contenu : - Creating a specific microwave antenna for the pultrusion die
- Formulating the resin with the necessary microwave susceptors
- Modelling the pultrusion process for die design
- Developing a specific sensor system to continuously monitor the curing degree of the resin and coating inside the pultrusion mould
- Manufacturing the molds and integrating all the subsystems
- Formulating a fast-curing primer to coat the composite profile and foster the adhesion of a debondable adhesive
