Traîtements de surfaceIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Nature has inspired scientists to create hydrophilic and hydrophobie paint surfaces. Considerable efforts have been made over the last few decades for developing self-cleaning surfaces exhibiting high contact angles for both polar and non-polar liquids. Self-cleaning coatings are becoming a requirement as integral part of our daily life because of their utility in various applications. Self-cleaning coatings are applied to maintain interior and exterior hygiene of the building structure and also in many automotive appliances.
This paper is regarding various approaches in self-cleaning coatings like superhydrophilicity, superhydrophobicity and Omniphobicity. Nano TiO2 chemically breaks down organic dirt, adsorbed onto the surface. Dirt can be washed with water sheets due to superhydrophilicity. Superhydrophilicity is required for uniform cleaning of the surfaces. White superhydrophobic coatings impart water beading due to high contact angle which in tum keep surface clean. Omni phobie (omni: all ; phobie: repellent) due to very low surface tension value and surface morphology repel almost all types of liquids from paint surface. A broad range of applications of omniphobic coatings are : in Decorative & automotive field, permaclean cloths, anti-icing coatings for metals etc.Note de contenu : - BASICS OF SELF-CLEANING

Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This review mainly deals with the topics of self-cleaning coatings, focuses on the materials/ingredients that have been used in applications and recent technology that aims to improve these materials. Hydrophobic and hydrophilic techniques in coatings are discussed, and the various mechanisms of self-cleaning are described and related to the properties of materials of the coatings. Although several multinational companies have released products incorporating self-cleaning coatings, there remains much potential in this field, different characterization techniques and feasibilities of material testing are also discussed and analyzed. Though several companies have commercialized a few products based on self-cleaning coating technology, much potential still remains in this field. The scope of this article orbits around hydrophobic and hydrophilic coatings, their working mechanism, fabrication techniques that enable the development of such coatings, various functions like Anti-icing, Electro wetting. Surface switch ability and the areas where self-cleaning technology can be implemented. Note de contenu : - NATURAL LEAD : Hyrophilic coatings : photocatalytic

Textiles et tissusIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Superhydrophobic coatings in the recent past is gaining great deal of attention for the range of properties provided by them for applications such as anti-icing coatings, self cleaning, biomimetic engineering materials, fouling release coating etc. A typical superhydrophobic (ultra hydrophobic) surface can repel water droplets from wetting itself, and the contact angle of a water droplet resting on a superhydrophobic surface is greater than 150°, which means extremely low wet ability is achievable on superhydrophobic surfaces. Many superhydrophobic surfaces (both manmade and natural) normally exhibit micro- or nanosized roughness as well as hierarchical structure, which somehow can influence the surface's water repellence. As the research into superhydrophobic surfaces goes deeper and wider, it is becoming more important to both academic fields and industrial applications . The scope of this article orbits around superhydrophobic coating, their working mechanism, fabrication techniques that enable the development of such coatings and their application in various fields.
