The object of this paper is to give a basic overview of the mechanisms involved in the durability coatings with a particular emphasis of the role of titanium dioxide pigments. It is particulary aimed at newcomers to the industry and describes principles without including many details of the complex physics and chemistry involved. Note de contenu : - What is durability?
- Degradation of unpigmented films
- Degradation of films pigmented with titanium dioxide
- Effect of pigment grade
- Effect of film thickness
- Effect of pigment dispersion

As with other polyester resin properties, the rate of hydrolysis can be modified by choice of monomer. The objective of this study is to demonstrate changes in hydrolytic stability in waterbone polyesters as a function of change in glycol and diacid composition. In the glycol section of the study, BEPD and HPHP were compared. For the diacid section, adipic acid, isophthalic acid, and 1,4-CHDA were examined. Aqueous dispersions were subjected to storage at both ambient and elevated temperature. Response factors measured over time included molecular weight, pH, appearance, and change in properties of coatings made from the aged dispersions. Results are discussed with reference to accepted hydrolysis hydrolysis rate theories. Results show that inductively stabilized, hydrophobic monomers such as 1,4-CHDA and BEPD produce the most stable waterborne polyesters of the glycols and diacids studied. [article]
Titre : Rheological modification of solvent based industrial coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Année de publication : 1995 Article en page(s) : p. 123-131 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The use of rheological modifiers in solvent-based paint manufacturing has been well documented over the last 30 to 40 years. These modifiers control the in-can properties of the paint as well as the application properties of the coating.
Basically, such additives prevent pigment settling and improve the in-can appearance of the paint, and provide ease of application, control of flow and sag resistance of the coating during application.
This paper will discuss two new approaches to the problem of theology, principally for the industrial coatings market segment:
1. An amide thixotropic additive.
2. Heat-resistant thixotropic resins.Note de contenu : - The importance of rheology
- Rheological modifiers
- The additive approach : - New product type - Conditions of use - Advantages in performance
- The resin approach : - Thixotropic binder modifiers - Application considerations - Rheological propertiesPermalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=13609
