Through radiometer and theoretical analysis, the heat insulation of wired glass sprayed with intumescent coatings was measured. Test results indicate that after using an intumescent coating with a thickness of 0.3 mm, wired glass surface will generate a heat insulation layer that will dramatically reduce radiant energy levels due to thermal expansion. Results from this study suggest the use for a grid shape of intumescent coating because of the ease of application to wired glass and the fact that wired glass with an intumescent coating has proven to be the most feasible heat insulation material that can be practically applied in designated fireproof compartments of buildings. ViscositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Glass flake epoxy coatings are most commonly used to protect splash zone areas of offshore assets. The splash zone area is a highly corrosive area due to exposure to the wet and dry atmospheric cyclic process. In addition, splash zones and heavy-duty decks also experience high impact and abrasion which can cause faster loss of integrity of non-glass flake coatings. Glass flakes (GF) impart unique properties to epoxy coatings when compared with traditional or granular fillers. Level of loading and aspect ratio of GF in the formulation has a critical effect on coating performance. Hence, high level of caution needs to be taken while choosing GF, considering its particle size and thickness. In this paper, the changes in physical, mechanical, barrier and anticorrosion properties with variation of type and dosage of GF in high-build pigmented epoxy coatings for splash zone areas, are investigated. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (E15) and water vapour transmission (WVT) tests were used for checking performance of coatings related to barrier protection. The results of EIS correlate well with those of WVT rate measurement and the SEM images were found to be helpful for understanding the GF orientation in the matrix. From the whole study it was concluded that the GF of higher flake size and aspect ratio and at 10% loading level in the coating formulation give the best barrier property, whereas GF with lower flake size and aspect ratio and at 10% loading level give the best corrosion resistance, mechanical strength and physical properties like viscosity build up and sag resistance. The valuable information derived from these experiments is expected to generate better insight into the influence of GF types and their loading level on performance parameters of high-build epoxy coatings.
- l'une, hexagonale, est thermodynamiquement stable ; elle est de type wurtzite ;

VerreIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : This study aims at exploring composite materials based on polymer matrix for microelectronics application. Materials used for such applications need to have added multifunctional properties. Up to now, a sole polymer or single filler-filled polymer composites is tough to satisfy the demand for more multifunctional properties, particularly to acquire high effective thermal conductivity and low-dielectric constant simultaneously. In this study, hybrid filler systems i.e. aluminum nitride of average particle size 60 to 70 micron and solid glass microspheres of 90 to 100 micron were incorporated into epoxy matrix in an attempt to reach a composite with such desired properties. By varying the volume fraction of fillers (5 to 25 % for aluminum nitride and 5 to 10 % for solid glass microspheres), a new kind of epoxy-matrix composite is fabricated on a laboratory scale by simple hand lay-up technique keeping in mind the fact that the future electronic packaging materials would possess high heat dissipation capability, high glass transition temperature, low coefficient of thermal expansion and low dielectric constant for appropriate functioning of the electronic substrate. In addition, the measured thermal conductivity is compared with calculated values obtained from the proposed mathematical model and found that they are in better agreement with the values obtained from the proposed correlation.
