This article is focussing on the behaviour at rest. The conventional methods are discussed : shear rate controlled or shear stress controlled rotational tests, in which the shear rate or shear stress increases in the form of a ramp to determine the apparent yield point. Another method is described to reveal the elastic behaviour of the sample below the yield stress according to Hooke's elasticity law. Further rheological information can be obtained using oscillatory tests. They should be selected to evaluate the viscoelastic character of measuring samples at rest. Note de contenu : 1. Rotational Tests : Apparent Yield Point (YP) via flow curves - Yield Point between the elastic and viscous range
2. Oscillatory tests : Amplitude Sweep(AS) - Frequency Sweep (FS)

ViscositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In powder coatings, the conflicting parameters regarding stability, reactivity, viscosity and flow during stoving must be balanced for each individual system. A large amount of work has been devoted to developing customised binder/hardener combinations for various applications, but little has been done to investigate the interactions between the pigment and binder systems. This article aims to show that the type of pigment and inorganic pigment surface modifications may have an influence on the viscosity and rate of reaction in the powder coating, which must not be underestimated, and that this affects the surface quality significantly. Note de contenu : - Outstanding heat resistance of inorganic pigments
- PU-system A-Blocking isocyanate crosslinkers with caprolactam
- PU-system B-Internal blocking of isocyanate crosslinkers
- Manufacture and testing of the powder coatings
- Inorganic Pigments in the PU powder coating system A : - Modified iron oxide pigments stable above 220 °C; - Pigment surface modification alters the viscosity; - Different curing times for different yellow iron oxide pigments; - Correlations between pigment and coating properties
- Red iron oxide pigments in PU system B : - Coarser pigments lead to smaller viskosity effects and higher reactivityPermalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=11039

Following application in the required thickness, the coating should demonstrate good flow without dripping. The rheology also influences the storage life of a coating material.
Dripping, flow and sedimentation all occur in the low shear rate range, between around 0.001 and 0.1 /s (Figure 1). By contrast, the coating is manufactured and generally also applied at a very much higher shear rate of around 100000/sNote de contenu : - Influence of shear rate

In many cases, this can be achieved only with equipment operating solely with solvent-based cleaners. The coatings producer PPG Industries has now installed a cleaning plant that requires no solvents in its Weinqarten works. Yet the results obtained on containers both for conventional 1-pack and 2-pack coatings and for waterborne coatings meet the most stringent requirements. Note de contenu : - High pressure spray unit used as the washing machine
- Strict separation of cleaning agent and rinsing water : Closed-circuit washing - Closed-circuit rinsing - Rinsing with fresh water - Suction with drying
- No waste air treatment required to comply with clean air regulations
- High degree of acceptance on the part of staff
- Inexpensive and environmentally friendlyPermalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=11041

Solvants organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A review of the issues in achieving good rheological behaviour in compliant coatings is presented, particularly with respect to pigment dispersion. Polymeric dispersants have been specifically developed to overcome some of the problems posed by changes in technology and reduce the effect of the dispersed pigment on the rheology of the finished paint or ink. Examples are discussed on multi-compatible solvent tinters, UV systems and high solids coatings. Note de contenu : - Structure and function of polymeric dispersants : - The polymer chains sterically stabilise the pigment; - The surface of inorganic pigments is more reactive than the surface of organic pigments
- Benefits of using polymeric dispersants : - A positive impact on the rheology; - Reduced milling time
- Use of polymeric disperants in industrial tinters : - Improved compatibility with base paints; - Improved breadth of polymeric dispersant compatibility
- Reduction of solvent (VOC) in high solids coatings
- Polymeric dispersants reduce the interparticulate attraction between the pigment particules
- UV Inks and Coatings : - Overcome deficiencies using polymeric dispersantsPermalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=11042
