- l'une, hexagonale, est thermodynamiquement stable ; elle est de type wurtzite ;

VerreIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : This study aims at exploring composite materials based on polymer matrix for microelectronics application. Materials used for such applications need to have added multifunctional properties. Up to now, a sole polymer or single filler-filled polymer composites is tough to satisfy the demand for more multifunctional properties, particularly to acquire high effective thermal conductivity and low-dielectric constant simultaneously. In this study, hybrid filler systems i.e. aluminum nitride of average particle size 60 to 70 micron and solid glass microspheres of 90 to 100 micron were incorporated into epoxy matrix in an attempt to reach a composite with such desired properties. By varying the volume fraction of fillers (5 to 25 % for aluminum nitride and 5 to 10 % for solid glass microspheres), a new kind of epoxy-matrix composite is fabricated on a laboratory scale by simple hand lay-up technique keeping in mind the fact that the future electronic packaging materials would possess high heat dissipation capability, high glass transition temperature, low coefficient of thermal expansion and low dielectric constant for appropriate functioning of the electronic substrate. In addition, the measured thermal conductivity is compared with calculated values obtained from the proposed mathematical model and found that they are in better agreement with the values obtained from the proposed correlation.
Toiture -- RevêtementsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : While researching the world of paint and coatings additives for what was new and novel, an article written in June 2020 caught my attention. It was an in-depth analysis of the myriad of additives that are ubiquitous in paints, coatings, and adhesives.
Composing only 4% of a coating, chemical additives are instrumental to coatings manufacturing, shelf-life stability, successful application onto substrates, film formation, and ultimately, appearance, performance, and durability. Ironically, this seemingly endless array of additives is the smallest of the global raw material categories, as defined by World Coatings Council data, representing only 0.5% of total usage volume under the anonymous category of “Other.”
More importantly, consolidation of raw materials and coatings companies, coupled with environmental constraints, has led to decreased availability of “preferred tried-and-true” raw materials. This has forced formulators to embark on the uncomfortable task of extracting multifunctional properties from the remaining additives. That article ended with the observation that there was “plenty of room for innovative thinking, by both the additive producers and the coatings formulators, with regard to the subject of polyfunctional additives for paints and coatings. The challenge is here . . . and the time to accept it is now.”
That last sentence challenging the status quo shouted that another treatise governing the myriad of chemical paint additives would be redundant at best. The academic literature and trade publications contain everything that is currently known about traditional additives for paints and coatings. Rather, a different analytical approach to examining the world of additives would be more interesting and perhaps a small step forward to "accepting the challenge".
This musing led to the obvious question: “If not wetting/dispersing agents, rheological modifiers, foam control, surface modifiers, flow and leveling agents, catalysts, driers, adhesion promoters, biocides, stabilizers, plasticizers, et al., then what ?” After all, Robert Ruckle, global marketing and sales director of Siltech Corporation, likened additives to the “flavors and spices” of a coating by comparing the plethora of choices to a “secret chili recipe". Chili, like paint, derives signature characteristics from the special blend of secret additives. Clearly, another path of examination would be required.Note de contenu : - Commercial applications

MicrosphèresIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : A protein isolate derived from pea seeds was applied as matrix material for the microencapsulation of béta- carotene, intended for cosmetic application. Experiments were performed to evaluate the possibility of encapsulating béta-carotene in pea protein microsphere by supercritical CO2 (scCO2) technology. The microspheres were prepared by a water-in-oil emulsion technique, where stabilization of the microspheres occured by heat treatment. Parameters like temperature of the emulsion and pH of the protein dispersion appeared to have a marked effect on the formation of microspheres and on the porosity of the matrices. Porous microspheres were successfully applied as carrier materials for β-carotène in scCO2 experiments. With this method no organic solvents were used, and in some cases a free flowing product was obtained. Most important, encapsulation was achieved under mild conditions, thereby preventing the sensitive β-carotene from degradation. This study showed that scC02 technology appeared to be a promising encapsulation technique for β-carotene in pea protein microspheres.
