Wood flooring, cabinetry, and furniture coatings segments are a major component of this movement. To support this transition, development of innovative solutions is required to provide improved coatings performance. End users are seeking increased durability and lower environmental impact, which comes with water-based technology. Improved scratch resistance will improve the long-lasting aesthetics and protection that wood coatings provide. A novel, easy-to-use approach to improve scratch resistance in water-based wood coatings has been demonstrated in multiple resin technologies. Performance testing of improved scratch resistance while maintaining good film properties will be presented in a water-based, ultraviolet (UV)-curable system that exceeds performance of current market offerings.
(Wikipedia)

Salissures biologiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The widely recognized biofouling phenomenon has many negative consequences for artificial structures that are in contact with seawater in the form of structural defects and additional expenses for maritime companies due to cleaning and prevention processes. After having analyzed the serious environmental problems caused by an indiscriminate use of highly toxic biocides coming from organic derivatives of tin compounds and the uncontrolled emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) to the atmosphere, the evolving technology of antifouling paintings (further mandated by current environmental standards) aims to develop environmentally innocuous water-based coverings in which extracts of the very same marine world are used as biocide compounds. Water-based coatings are being developed that use low-toxic elements and natural biocides, where bacteria is isolated from surfaces immersed in the marine environment, creating a promising source of natural antifouling compounds. The result is a new environmentally friendly antifouling coating that is able to mitigate the problem of biofouling without affecting the surrounding medium, and which may be applied on any artificial structure in contact with seawater.
Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The difficulty of handling, incorporating and dispersing some powder additives presents challenges to coating manufacturers employing such materials in their formulations. Furthermore, working with these powders can lead to some disadvantages including dirtiness and dust, contamination and possibly reduced performance.
Cab-O-Sperse fumed metal oxide dispersions can help balance or break some of the trade-offs between processing powder additives and the final performance of the coatings formulations in which those additives are used. Cab-0- Sperse dispersions use proprietary Cabot technology to produce highly stable fumed alumina or fumed silica dispersions in water, featuring uniform particle distributions with an average size of less than 0.2 pm, differing solid contents (12 to 40%), surface charges (anionic or cationic) and pH values (4 to 10.5). This results in several advantages compared to powder products, including ease of incorporation and mixing into liquid coatings, reduced dust in the environment, less waste and reduced risk of bubbling caused by trapped air. When used in coatings, the Cab-O-Sperse product line provides increased film hardness and abrasion resistance, improved corrosion resistance and barrier properties.
The Cab-O-Sperse dispersions line is presented below via comparative studies of formulations with no additives, formulations with rheological additives including dry fumed silica powder and formulations with added Cab-O-Sperse dispersions, in order to analyse their hardness, scratch resistance, transparency and rheological properties.Note de contenu : - An overview of fumed silica and fumed silica dispersions in coatings

The author writes of the lastest developments. Silicone materials have been used for many years to improve the surface appearance and properties of various decorative and industrial coatings. In recent years great emphasis has been put on the development of environment-friendly architectural coatings. Therefore, there was a need to develop both, modified silicone polymers to improve the compatibility with waterborne formulations and silicone polymers that comply with the requested environmental standards. The formulation of architectural coatings requires additives to improve the deaeration and water resistance. Note de contenu : - Foam control
