The absorption, fluorescence, and electrochemical properties of these naphthoylenebenzimidazolone dyes and their usefulness as visible light initiators of free radical polymerisation of trimethylolpropane triacrylate were examined. The initiation efficiency of these dyes was compared with that of the parent 7H-benzimidazo[2,1-a]benz[de]isoquinolin-7-one in the presence of a coinitiator. Results show that these bifunctional dyes are able to initiate polymerisation without an additional coinitiator. Photopolymerisation studies and the relationship between the rate of polymerisation and the free energy change for electron transfer revealed that, depending on the concentration, initiating radicals are generated via intra- and intermolecular electron transfer. VertIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A novel green fluorescent dye, 4-hexylamino-N-(2-hydroxy-1-hydroxymethylethyl)-1,8-naphthalimide (AHHNA), was designed and synthesized, and then used as a chain extender to prepare a series of intrinsically green fluorescent polyurethane (PU) latexes. The chemical structure of AHHNA and the properties of the fluorescent PU latexes and their films were characterized. It was found that the UV–Vis and the fluorescent spectra of the PUs remained fairly consistent with AHHNA, and the fluorescence emitting capacity of 1,8-naphthalimide group was enhanced by covalently bonding AHHNA onto the PU chain. The amount of AHHNA used in the latex preparation had no obvious effect on the latex colloid properties including particle size, poly index, and zeta potential. Results showed that the color difference (?E) and the extraction rate (Re) of the intrinsically fluorescent PU latex film were 5.72% and 3.1%, respectively, while the ?E and Re of the extrinsically fluorescent PU latex film were 8.31% and 84.7%, respectively, indicating that the light fastness and the solvent fastness of the intrinsically fluorescent PU latex film were much better than those of the extrinsically fluorescent PU latex film. [article]
Titre : Novel methods for dyeing the epidermis of bamboo culms and their colour fastness Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Min-Jay Chung, Auteur ; Sen-Sung Cheng, Auteur ; Chia-Ju Lee, Auteur ; Shang-Tzen Chang, Auteur Année de publication : 2014 Article en page(s) : p. 112-119 Note générale : Bibliogr.

UltrasonsIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : This study examined the effects of various dyestuffs and treatment conditions on the epidermis colour of ma bamboo (Dendrocalamus latiflorus), moso bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens), and makino bamboo (P. makinoi). The objective was to determine the optimum approach for endowing the bamboo culms with a fascinating brown colour without removing their epidermis, which would increase the economic value of bamboo products. Experimental results revealed that an excellent brown colour was obtained when bamboo culms were treated with 0.25% CI Basic Brown 4 solution in an 80 °C water bath for 60 min (H° values of 37.9, 25.0, and 25.7° respectively). In addition, alkali-pretreated bamboo culms also exhibited a good brown colour dyeing when treated with 0.25% CI Basic Brown 4 at ambient temperature for 2 days (a* and b* values of 30.8 and 35.1 respectively). Furthermore, the use of an ultrasonic bath instead of a water bath can reduce the treatment time required for achieving an improvement in the effectiveness of brown colour dyeing of the bamboo epidermis. Results obtained from indoor light fastness tests demonstrated that more uniform dyeing and better colour fastness could be achieved by colour fixation post-treatment with 1% glacial acetic acid.
