The results show that the physicalmechanical properties and cleaning properties of the leather samples finished with the acrylic-resin/nano-SiO2 composite increase noticeably. As examples, water vapour penetration and air permeability improved by 11.5% and 15.4%, dry rub fastness and folding strength [flexing] of the leather finished with the composite resin were also, to a degree, superior to that finished by the acrylic resin. The surface morphology observed by SEM (scanning electron microscope-energy spectrum of X-ray analysis) and AFM (atomic force microscope) indicated that the surface of the leather finished with the composite resin is smoother than that of leathers finished with the acrylic resin. Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Nowadays, the increasing demands from consumer challenges the traditional leather products. Traditional polymer leather finishes gradually lose their dominant position in the market. To address this issue, recent research effort has been devoted to developing polymer-based organic-inorganic nanocomposite leather finishes due to their various functional properties including antibacterial, self-cleaning and water-resistant property. In this review, we provide a comprehensive overview of synthesis of polymer-based organic-inorganic nanocomposites and their application as functional leather finishes. With the perspective of their properties and current challenges, an outlook in the future development about crafting functional and high-quality leather finishes are further proposed. The applications of modified starch in leather making are summarized and the potential applications of the modified starch are considered.
Though the studies of the modified starch were focussed on dialdehyde starch that has been used as tanning material in the past, the authors believe that graft starch maybe a possible new material in leather making with uses as tanning agent, retanning agent, and finishing agent.Note de contenu : - The structure of starch

Température de retraitIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : In this paper, montmorillonite (MMT) was first modified with dimethyldiallyl ammonium chloride (referred to as DMDAAC) and cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) through a cation exchanging reaction. The modified MMT and the vinyl polymer were then used to prepare composites which were then characterized by XRD. Finally, the vinyl polymer/CTAB modified MMT (abbreviated to VP/C-MMT) was applied in the leather making process to examine its tanning properties.
The results of XRD show that the interlayer spacing of the modified MMT is received are 1.40nm and 1.99nm for DMDAAC-MMT and CTAB-MMT respectively, while the d-spacing distance of pristine MMT is only 1.23nm. The composites of DMDAAC modified MMT and VP are phase separated, while CTAB modified MMT formed intercalated nanocomposites with VP.
The application results show, that the shrinkage temperature of leather tanned by VP/C-MMT nano-tannage associated with 2% chrome under optimum process conditions can be raised to 90°C, the strength properties and the water permeability of tanned leather are closely similar to those of a 8% chrome tanned leather, meanwhile, the incrassation rates [thickness increment ratios] are far geater than for the 8% chrome tanned leather. We conclude that the nano tannage is an appropriate application in a reduced-chrome tannage.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : Major chemicals - Synthesis of vinyl polymer - Preparation of modified MMT - Preparation of composites - Application of VP/C-MMT nano tannage - Characterization and measurement
