Titre : Economic aspects of biodiesel production from tannery waste fats Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Karel Kolomaznik, Auteur ; Jiri Pecha, Auteur ; Michaela Barinova, Auteur ; Lubomir Sanek, Auteur Année de publication : 2010 Article en page(s) : p. 327-333 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : The present high price for biodiesel results from the high prices of it’s main feedstock—soybean (USA) and canola oil (Europe). The potential profit from the utilization of low cost tannery fat wastes for biodiesel production depends on the processing costs of the pre-treatment technology; which includes their refining and esterification of free fatty acids. A suitable ratio of tetramethylammonium hydroxide, which is used as an alkali esterification agent of free fatty acids and simultaneously as a transesterification catalyst, enables making biodiesel production from tannery waste feedstock economically profitable. Optimization of the pre-treatment technology is presented using a proposed mathematical model. The final biodiesel properties can be improved by its production from the blends of the waste fats with waste oils. Tannage Résumé : With a wide experience spanning over thirty years in the Leather subsector Dr. M Mwinyihija embarked on his doctoral studies at the University of Aberdeen, focusing on the latest ecotoxicological and novel techniques that could provide environmental diagnostic insights to the tanning industry. Certain criterion was fundamental in writing this book; that the tanning industry is a major source of pollution worldwide, particularly in developing countries. Indeed the developed ecotoxicological and analytical techniques were deliberately designed on the basis of being rapid, simple and inexpensive and directed towards resolving the tanning industry challenges on terrestrial and aquatic systems. Thus the resultant research data reported, incorporates both field related and laboratory based techniques to address underlying environmental problems in the tanning sector. Ecotoxicological diagnosis in the tanning industryURL Effect of accelerated ageing on the physical and chemical properties of chrome-free leather / R. Li in JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETY OF LEATHER TECHNOLOGISTS & CHEMISTS (JSLTC), Vol. 100, N° 1 (01-02/2016)

Titre : Effect of accelerated ageing on the physical and chemical properties of chrome-free leather Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : R. Li, Auteur ; Y. Z. Wang, Auteur ; Z. H. Shan, Auteur ; M. Yang, Auteur ; W. Li, Auteur ; H. L. Zhu, Auteur Année de publication : 2016 Article en page(s) : p. 19-24 Note générale : Bibliogr.

Tannage Résumé : With the expansion of market demand for chrome-free leathers, much attention has been paid to the safety in using them. Four kinds of chrome-free upper leathers made by Vegetable-Glutaraldehyde (Veg-GA), Glutaraldehyde-Vegetable (GA-Veg), Vegetable-Aluminium (Veg-AI) and a synthetic agent were subjected to accelerated ageing by hot air, UV light and Xe lamp respectively for 96 hours. The physical qualities and chemical indicators of these leathers before and after ageing, such as the shrinkage temperature (Ts), tensile strength, tear strength, colour difference, water vapour permeability, formaldehyde, phenol and aniline were tested. It was shown that some common rules apply to the four kinds of chrome-free upper leather samples after ageing, Xe-lamp ageing has made the tear strength, formaldehyde and phenol levels reduce the most and the aniline level increased the most. UV-light ageing has caused the maximum colour difference change whist hot-air ageing has caused the maximum Ts decrease. All of the ageing methods have enhanced the water vapour permeability. Summarising, leather samples made differently have different physical quality indicators after the same ageing treatment. As the basis of the leather quality change, it is found that the leather fibre turns into a bundle, curled, loose and distorted no matter what kind of ageing treatment is used.

Tannage Résumé : A chromium-free amphoteric polymer retanning agent was prepared by free radical polymerization reaction of undecylenic aldehyde (UAL), acrylic acid (AA) and dimethyl diallyl ammonium chloride (DADMAC) as raw materials. The structure of amphoteric polymer retanning agent was characterized by FT-IR and 1H-NMR. Amphoteric polymer retanning agent was applied to the retanning of vegetable-tanned light leather to investigate the binding ability of crust leather to anionic dyes, fat liquoring agent and physical-mechanical properties of the crust leather. The results showed that the synthesized amphoteric polymer retanning agent was successfully prepared. The application trial indicated that the amphoteric polymer retanning agent can improve the binding capacity between leather and anion dye and fat liquoring agent in the retanning process. The dye absorption rate of the crust leather was up to 99.58% and the dyeing liquor was clear. Furthermore, color of the crust leather was uniform and full and its K/S value and drywet rub fastness, thickening rate and physical-mechanical properties were higher than that of the retanned leather by acrylic resin retanning agent. In addition, the crust leather after retanning with amphoteric polymer retanning agent has good softness, and the absorption rate of fat liquoring agent was 99.62%. The above results showed that amphoteric polymer retanning agent possessed the good retanning property in vegetable tanned sheep garment leather.

Tannage Résumé : In this study, investigations were performed on the effect of atmospheric pressure plasma modification after the retanning process on sheep leathers and wastewater of the processes. The plasma treatments of the leather samples were carried out with an argon containing corona discharge at atmospheric pressure. Argon atmospheric pressure plasma (APP) activation was applied to the crust sheep leather surface with different times (0, 3, 6, 9 sec/cm2). After argon APP application, the crust sheep leathers were processed by traditional retannage. The surface properties of the treated sheep leathers were characterised by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and an atomic force microscopy (AFM). The chemical composition of the leather surfaces was evaluated by ATR-FTIR and the surface state of the leathers was determined by contact angle measurements. The discharged chrome retanning and retanning wastewaters at the end of the processes were examined in order to determine the differences in the wastewater in terms of COD, BOD5, conductivity, turbidity, pH, salinity, total dissolved solids content (TDS) and total chromium content analyses.
