Résistance à la flammeIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Four common film-forming materials, including polyurethane (PU), polyacrylate(PA), nitrocellulose lacquer (NC) and protein, were used to coat leather. The flammability of the leather was evaluated by the vertical flame test (ALCA Method E 50) and oxygen index (OI) test method (ASTM D 2863-77). The results indicate that all of the above film-forming materials can enhance the flame-resistance of the leather. According to the OI values of the finished leathers the performance of film-forming materials on leather can be ranked as : PU>Protein>PA>NC. The results of flammability tests show that pigmented finishes may improve the flame-resistance of the leather. The effect of different application levels of film-forming materials on the flammability was examined. The results indicate that the OI values decreased with the increasing levels of PA and PU, and the other values, i.e. afterglow, after-flame, char length and weight loss, etc. rose. The variance of PU was larger than for PA.
The afterglow and after-flame of the leather, finished with a 'Sofa Leather Finishing Formula' (Clariant Chemicals Ltd, China), were much higher than for the crust indicating that the flame-resistance of this finished leather is worse than the crust.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Materials - Preparation of finished leather samples - Sampling for oxygen index test and vertical flame test - Vertical flame test - Oxygen Index test

Tannage au chromeIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : A series of amphiphilic copolymers with different hydrophobie side chain structures were prepared through radical copolymerization of acrylic acid and varying hydrophobie acrylate monomers which were then applied to the retanning and fatliquoring processes of chrome-tanned leather. The main properties of the processed leathers were evaluated. The results showed that this kind of copolymer could give to leather, good filling effects, softness, waterproofness and mechanical strength. The application performances of the copolymers in leather-making were obviously affected by the hydrophobie side chain structure, especially the hydrophobie side chain length of copolymers. Compared to copolymers with branched side chains, the copolymers with straight hydrophobie side chains exhibited botter comprehensive performances. Most of the above mentioned properties of the treated leathers were improved significantly with the increase of side chain length. When the length of the hydrophobie side chain was more than C16, they can give leather excellent waterproofness, softness and mechanical strength. The results of dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and the scanning electron microscope (SEM) images also showed that the fibre bundles in the leathers were well separated and lubricated by the long hydrophobie side chains. Cuirs et peaux de moutonsIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Sewability is one of the essential parameters influencing the garment making process as well as the quality of the final product. In this work, sewability of sheep nappa leathers was measured in terms of seam efficiency and was correlated with related mechanical properties. Seam efficiency was found to be between 44 and 99 % for the sheep nappa leathers employed in this study. Among the various mechanical properties studied, elongation at break seems to influence the seam efficiency significantly as evidenced from the correlation coefficient value of 0.99. While tensile strength and seam strength aslo had fairly good relation with seam efficiency with correlation coefficient values greater than or equal to 0.90. Formability, breaking strength and stitch tear strength (double hole) exhibited a correlation coefficient of >-0.80 with seam efficiency, indicating a high dependency. While most of these parameters had direct relation with seam efficiency, indicating a high dependency. While most of these parameters had direct relation with seam efficiency, initial tensile modulus had an inverse relation. Flexural rigidity did not show any significant relation with seam efficiency. The results obtained in this study would form a basis for designing and fabricating of leather garments. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL METHODS : Materials

Titre : Influence of microbial transglutaminase modified gelatin-sodium caseinate, as a filler, on the subjective mechanical and structural properties of leather Type de document : texte imprimé Année de publication : 2011 Article en page(s) : p. 200-207 Note générale : Bibliogr.

TransglutaminaseIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : This work investigated the influence of filling process, using gelatin-sodium caseinate modified by microbial transglutaminase (MTG) on the subjective, mechanical, and structural properties of leather. The results indicate that in comparison with the control (without filling process), the MTG modified gelatin-sodium caseinate as the fillers improved the subjective properties such as grain tightness, grain smoothness, and fullness, but did not significantly affected the mechanical properties such as tensile strength, elongation at break, and tongue tear. The scanning electron microscopic analysis indicates that the microstructure of the leather treated with the fillers became more regular and tighter compared with the control. The results obtained here may be useful for the application of MTG in the leather processing in improving certain subjective and structural properties of leather. Note de contenu : EXPERIMENTAL :
