This paper contains an overview of the theory behind the method and some simple examples to illustrate its implementation to model the refinement of patterns on the camouflaged surface. The objective is to provide an introduction to the method and to present a useful tool for solving practical problems. The first attempts of its application for military camouflage pattern generation are presented. A colour management system utilising the Monte Carlo method and based on the imaging and spectral data enabled the design of a dedicated camouflage pattern for both small‐ and large‐size military objects. In this study, the optimised solvent composition is investigated to enhance the photochromic performance of luteolinidin, a 3‐deoxyanthocyanidin derivative. The visible absorbance ratio between the solution after UV irradiation and after storage in the dark, an index of photochromic performance, was found to be affected by the pH of the solution, and the value reached a maximum when the pH of the solution was 5.7. The type of organic solvent, which is necessary to dissolve luteolinidin, also affected the photochromic performance. When diethylene glycol or dipropylene glycol was used, the value of the absorbance ratio was especially large. Furthermore, this optimised solvent composition displayed excellent photochromic properties with an extract from the sorghum grain shell containing a large amount of 3‐deoxyanthocyanins. Teinture -- Fibres textiles synthétiquesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Electrospun nanofibrous mats are popular for their wide technological applications as medical, filtration, sensing and high performance textiles. The potential for coloration of electrospun nanofibrous mats for aesthetic purposes has also been explored recently, and the pigment coloration of cellulose electrospun nanofibrous mats is reported for the first time in this paper. Cellulose acetate electrospun nanofibrous mats were fabricated using electrospinning followed by treatment with sodium hydroxide to synthesise regenerated cellulose electrospun nanofibrous mats. Then the cellulose mats were coloured with commercially available pigments by a pad‐dry‐bake method. Excellent K/S and colour fastness to both washing and light were produced with the application of three commercial pigments. The pH and total dissolved solids content of the coloration wastewater, as well as the mechanical properties of the electrospun nanofibrous mats, were also tested. Attenuated total reflection‐Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy analysis were used for characterisation. Polycaprolactone nanocomposites with different concentrations of nanoparticles were prepared and coated onto three types of papers: uncoated, low‐coated and gloss. The main aim was to analyse the influence of the nanoparticle concentration in primer on the optical and colorimetric properties of cyan and magenta offset printed samples. To further evaluate the applicability of the primers, the tensile strength of primed samples and their surface properties were analysed. Results show that prepared primers are primarily applicable on uncoated and low coated papers. Both nanoparticles in specific concentrations increased gloss values for printed samples on low‐coated paper, and the addition of both types of nanoparticles increased the rub resistance of printed samples. Furthermore, for each type of nanoparticle, the optimal concentration at which the colour deviation on print was minimised could be defined. Adding nanoparticles to primers did not significantly improve mottling on cyan‐printed samples. However, by increasing the concentration of nanoparticles in the primer by up to 1%, the mottling on magenta‐printed samples decreased. Solutions aqueuses (chimie)Index. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : We have developed a simple and valuable method for the construction of a colorimetric chemosensor for detecting Mn(ii) in aqueous media. The chemosensor was prepared by mixing two commercial products, an anionic organic dye, 2‐(5‐nitro‐2‐pyridylazo)‐5‐(N‐propyl‐N‐sulphopropylamino)phenol (Nitro‐PAPS) and a cationic polyelectrolyte, poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDADMAC). Upon gradual addition of Mn(ii) to the chemosensor, the absorption spectra showed a remarkable bathochromic shift concomitantly with a distinct colour change from yellow to blue‐green, while Nitro‐PAPS alone could not detect Mn(ii) in a colorimetric method. PDADMAC played a key role in sensing Mn(ii) for the mixture. The colour change might be due to the formation of the aggregate obtained through electrostatic interactions of a Nitro‐PAPS‐based Mn(ii) complex with PDADMAC. This investigation can inform the development of a new chemosensor by the combination of an anionic dye and a cationic polyelectrolyte.
