SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : The surfactants or surface active agents can be described as molecules containing both hydrophobic and hydrophilic portion which are able to reduce the surface tension or interfacial tension of water by absorbing at the liquid-gas or liquid-liquid interface. Apart from conventional monomeric cationic surfactants relatively new category of surfactant known as "Gemini surfactants" has been extensively studied in past two decades. Gemini surfactant is the family of surfactant molecules possessing more than one hydrophobic tail and hydrophilic head group. These surfactants usually have better surface-active properties than corresponding conventional surfactants of equal chain length. This review deals with synthesis, structure, critical micellar concentration, surface active properties and uses of geminis. Note de contenu : - CLASSIFICATION OF DIMERIC SURFACTANTS

A variety of hazardous pollutants are discharged into the environment from several industrial operations, vehicle exhausts and domestic use. Pollutants cause disturbance, instability, disorder, harm or discomfort to the animals, humans or other living organisms. It is difficult to remove waste completely to control pollution. There are various options to control pollution. Pollution is controlled by waste control at source, control on emissions of hazardous pollutants & using protective equipments. Coating the surface with pollutants absorbing paint is another option to control pollutions. Sound proofing materials and coatings absorb exces sound in rooms, chambers or work places. Quiet work place releases the tension of working person & peacefully he/she would work efficiently. Coating containing the lime (calcium hydroxide) cures and hardens naturally by carbonation and without exhalation of toxic, hazardous gases. During the curing process, the lime slowly absorbs the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and releases its water content. Polysiloxane base of the paint allows the nitrogen oxides to diffuse and convert it to nitric acid with the help of titanium dioxide. Heterogeneous photocatalysis is an advanced oxidation technology for NOx removal from vehicle emissions by using TiO2 as a photocatalyst. Coating of iron nano particles neutralize dense, hydrohobic solvents which polluting the ground water. In photocatalytic reaction organic pollutants oxidizes into CO2 and water to disinfect bacteria in water presence of UV light. Note de contenu : - TYPES OF POLLUTIONS & ITS SOURCES

Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Recently, inorganic-organic hybrid coatings produced by the sol-gel route have proven to be a potential protective treatment. Sol-gel process is one of the simplest techniques to prepare thin films. The quality of the prepared films depends on the parameters of the sol-gel process and the used technique. A variety of the sol-gel derived coating has been prepared for different applications. Comprehensive review papers have been made regularly in the past three decades by outstanding scientists such as Makaenzie, Sakka, Zarzycki, Schmidt, Uhlmann, Livage, Ulrich, Brinker, etc. Here we are presenting a review on the sol gel derived coatings. The description of the process is introduced in details. Different sol-gel deposition techniques are mentioned. Note de contenu : - COATING TECHNOLOGIES : 1. Dip coating techniques - 2.
