Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In the present work, jathropha oil was first converted into N,N-bis-(2-hydroxyethyl) Jathropha fatty amide (HEJFA) by condensation of jathropha oil with diethanolamine using zinc oxide as a catalyst. Different amounts of HEJFA was reacted with phthalic anhydride to obtain two different types of jathropha polyesteramides (JPEAs). JPEAs, were then reacted with an aromatic diisocynate compound in varying NCO/OH ratios to prepare a series of urethane polyesteramide (UJPEAs). The mechanical and chemical properties of air dried and baked films of UJPEAs were studied. Comparison of these properties for different resins reveals that properly formulated resin films exhibit satisfactory performance for their use as binders for industrial maintenance coatings. The seeds of this plant after milling and solvent extraction yielded 13% oil. The β-hydroxyalkyl amide of Ambadi oil has been synthesized by reaction between Ambadi oil and diethanol amine in presence of zinc oxide as a catalyst. The reaction is relatively rapid and proceeded to high yield at 200° ′ 5°C. The resulting β-hydroxyalkyl amide was used to formulate thermosetting coating compositions. Films were cured at ambient lair drying) and elevated (stove diving) temperatures using N, N-bis (2-hydroxyethyl) fatty amide (HAFA) of Ambadi oil as eco-friendly cross-linking agent for acrylic resin. The coating performance of the various compositions was tested by measurement of scratch hardness, impact strength and chemical resistance. The results show better performance of the HAFA based compositions compared to butylated melamine formaldehyde (MF) based compositions. Revêtements -- AdditifsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : N,N-bis (2-hydroxyethyl) fatty amide (HAFA) derived from dehydrated castor oil (DCO) has been employed as a curing agent for a carboxylic acid functional acrylic resin (AAR). Coating compositions with a varying AAR/HAFA ratio have been prepared and their various film properties have been studied and compared with the conventional butylated melamine formaldehyde (MF) based systems. The study reveals that HAFA can be used successfully as a crosslinking agent for AAR in baking systems. In addition to other technical advantages, the use of HAFA is environmentally friendly as no toxic volatiles are evolved during curing reaction, unlike in MF-cured systems.
