Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.6 Peintures Résumé : Karanja oil (Pongamia pinnata) is available in large quantity and used as a raw material for soap, and after its sulfonation and sulfation in the leather tanning industry in India. Oil from P. pinnata was extracted and characterized. It was first converted into N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl) Karanja fatty amide (HEKFA). HEKFA has been synthesized by reaction between Karanja oil and diethanol amine in presence of zinc oxide as a catalyst. The reaction is relatively rapid and proceeded to high yield at 200 ° ′ 5° C. The resulting HEKFA was used to formulate thermosetting coating compositions. Films were cured at ambient (air drying) and elevated (stove drying) temperatures using N,N-bis (2-hydroxyethyl) Karanja fatty amide (HEKFA) as eco-friendly crosslinking agent for acrylic resin. The coating performance of the various compositions was tested by measurement of scratch hardness, impact strength and chemical resistance. The results show better performance of the HEKFA based compositions compared to butylated melamine formaldehyde (MF) based compositions. Note de contenu : - Materials

We are interested in developing resins based mainly on vegetable resources rather than the petroleum products like phthalic anhydride. We have developed a short oil alkyd specifically using less proportion of anhydride & polyol, which is having all desirable properties for wall finishes. For controlling the activity of maleic anhydride sizable proportion of rosin has been used. The use of benzoic acid and rosin, which acts as chain stopper and regulates the polymerization at optimum level. Steady and slow growth of polymer reduced the chances and risk of gelation. We successfully incorporate acrylic and alkyd polymer in formulation of wall finish. Composition based on new alkyd and blends of alkyd with acrylics have been tried. The physicochemical properties of wall finish and their film properties have been tested and compared with standard brands of commercially available wall finishes.
