Acrylic acid in particular is a convenient and versatile starting point leading to a huge range of different polymer structures generally known as polycarboxylates. A great deal of work has been published on the effects polycarboxylates provide in laundry detergents. They have a pronounced dispersing capacity for particulate soil and sparingly soluble salts such as calcium carbonate and thus they are able to counteract incrustation and redeposition of soil onto fabrics. The incorporation of side chains of different lengths and chemistry opened the field of highly efficient rheology modifiers. This synthetic development has been aided by an increased understanding of the mode of action on a molecular level. Knowledge about the interaction of water-soluble polymers with nonionic and ionic surfactants and with particles has grown significantly and is still an area of great interest. Further, recent studies have shed more light on the dynamics of crystal growth of calcium carbonate in various environments and the role of polycarboxylates and other polymers in this process. Silsesquioxanes oligomères polyhèdresIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Polyoxymethylene composites with octakis (dimethylsiloxy, ethyl epoxycyclohexy)octasilsesquioxanes and octakis(dimethylsiloxy, vinyl)octasilsesquioxanes contents (0.5 and 1 wt.%) were studied. The effect of silsesquioxanes (POSS) on crystallization and melting behaviour of polyoxymethylene (POM) was investigated by polarized light microscope (PLM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), with the aim to determine the structural properties like crystallization temperature, degree of crystallinity and lamellar thickness distributions. It was found that POSS as nucleating agent affects the crystallization process of POM, leading to a homogeneous structure, improving the thermo-mechanical properties of polyoxymethylene composites. Based on SEM observations it was found that the POSS particles in a concentration of 0.5 wt.% are uniformly dispersed in polyoxymethylene matrix. The storage modulus and relaxations temperatures of POM with POM/0.5 wt.% ehPOSS and vinPOSS are slightly increased. High density polyethylene (HDPE)/4 wt% CaCO3 composites were prepared using a Haake Rotational Rheometer. The effects of the CaCO3 particle shapes and size on the thermal and mechanical properties were investigated and characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and universal testing machine. The results show the addition of CaCO3 to HDPE can increase the crystallization and decrease the melting temperature and crystallization temperature. The tensile yield strength of the composites was higher than that of HDPE. Sphere-like CaCO3 is the best form in improving the thermal stability and cubic CaCO3 can cause negative effect to the toughness. The impact strength of the composites is significantly increased with decreasing CaCO3 particle size. SEM examination of the fractured surfaces of the composites shows that CaCO3 reacted in cavitations and "lance" functions which increase the impact strength of the HDPE/CaCO3 composites.
Surfaces (Physique)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : This study employed solid hot stretching technology to produce successfully specifically oriented polylactic acid (PLA) while investigating the impact of orientation structure on its photo-oxidation aging properties. After orientation, the molecular weight and mechanical properties retention rate of PLA were improved, and the crystallinity (Xc) increased in conjunction with prolonged aging time, while the molecular orientation failed to modify the mechanism responsible for PLA deterioration. Furthermore, an examination regarding the way in which the photo-oxidation stability of PLA was enhanced, demonstrated that the increased Xc and structural orientation were beneficial for delaying the photo-oxidation aging of PLA. ThermogravimétrieIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : In this study, a organosilicon modified waterborne polyurethane (WPU) is synthesized with polyethylene glycol 1,4-butanediol adipate ester diol (PBA) to form the soft segment, dimethylolpropionic acid (DMPA) as the hydrophilic chain extender, and isophorone diisocyanate as the hard segment to synthesize the WPU prepolymer, and aminoethyl aminopropyl dimethicone (AEAPS) as the graft chain extender. The properties of the formed WPU films are then characterized by using Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, and dynamic mechanical analysis. It is found that when the amount of AEAPS in the WPU is increased from 0 to 30 wt%, the particle size of the AEAPS modified WPU emulsion is increased from 84.8 nm to 271.9 nm and maintained high centrifugal stability. Moreover, the water absorption of the WPU film is reduced from 43.4% to 24.1%, and the hardness is enhanced from 3H to 5H, while the glass-transition temperature (Tg) of the soft segment of the modified WPU shifts from -37.4 °C to -44.3 °C, and the Tg of the hard segment shifts from 73.6 °C to 118.1 °C. Therefore, the overall performance of AEAPS modified WPU is improved Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Preparation of WPU
