Traîtements de surfaceIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Nature has inspired scientists to create hydrophilic and hydrophobie paint surfaces. Considerable efforts have been made over the last few decades for developing self-cleaning surfaces exhibiting high contact angles for both polar and non-polar liquids. Self-cleaning coatings are becoming a requirement as integral part of our daily life because of their utility in various applications. Self-cleaning coatings are applied to maintain interior and exterior hygiene of the building structure and also in many automotive appliances.
This paper is regarding various approaches in self-cleaning coatings like superhydrophilicity, superhydrophobicity and Omniphobicity. Nano TiO2 chemically breaks down organic dirt, adsorbed onto the surface. Dirt can be washed with water sheets due to superhydrophilicity. Superhydrophilicity is required for uniform cleaning of the surfaces. White superhydrophobic coatings impart water beading due to high contact angle which in tum keep surface clean. Omni phobie (omni: all ; phobie: repellent) due to very low surface tension value and surface morphology repel almost all types of liquids from paint surface. A broad range of applications of omniphobic coatings are : in Decorative & automotive field, permaclean cloths, anti-icing coatings for metals etc.Note de contenu : - BASICS OF SELF-CLEANING

Solutions aqueuses (chimie)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Improving the collagen structure, which was impacted by the curing process, increases the efficiency of all subsequent structural transformations during leather production and results in the formation of a high-quality leather material. Herein, we studied the process of soaking green-salted horsehides in electrochemically activated aqueous solutions and the properties of resulting chrome-tanned leather. It was found that the process of soaking horsehides can be effectively carried out using an electrochemically activated solution (ECAS) – a mixture of catholyte and anolyte at a volume ratio of 5 : 1. Using this soaking solution, sodium sulfide (an environmentally harmful reagent), sodium carbonate, and detergent can be completely excluded from the technological solution. The use of ECAS at the soaking stage effectively regenerates the water balance of horsehides while maintaining a stable pH during the soaking process and increases the efficacy of liming and all subsequent processes. Considering the prominent structural differences (density and thickness) between the front and shell of horsehide, the developed method, which utilize ECAS for soaking, allows the entire process to be carried out on uncut horse hides instead of processing two parts separately, which is normally required. The chrome-tanned leather produced by the developed method in semi-industrial conditions has elastic-plastic properties which are superior compared to the leather produced by current technology. The developed method also results in increasing the area yield by 2.5%. The resulting elastic leather can be used for manufacturing a variety of articles, including clothing, accessories, and footwear. Titre : Removal of aromatic amines and decolourisation of azo dye baths by electrochemical treatment Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : VÃctor López-Grimau, Auteur ; Miquel Riera-Torres, Auteur ; Montserrat López-Mesas, Auteur ; Carmen Gutiérrez-Bouzán, Auteur Année de publication : 2013 Article en page(s) : p. 267–273 Note générale : Bibliogr.

Extraction (chimie)Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The presence of aromatic amines in effluent from dyeing processes of the textile industry is an added problem to the high coloration typical of this type of effluent. The main objective of the present work was to eliminate these two problems simultaneously by electrochemical treatment using bath solutions containing three azo dyes. For the analysis of amines, a liquid–liquid extraction method was developed as an easier and faster alternative to the method described in the standards and widely used in analytical laboratories. Four amines (aniline, o-toluidine, 4-chloroaniline and 4-aminobiphenyl) were detected by GC-MS in the residual azo dye baths. A total amine concentration of between 2.5 and 1 ppm was detected, 4-aminobiphenyl being the main compound. Both residual colour and amines were removed by electrochemical treatment carried out at three current densities (3, 24 and 40 mA/cm2). At 24 mA/cm2, more than 90% of colour removal was achieved, and the total amine concentration was reduced to below 0.15 ppm.
