Note de contenu : - Materiales y caracterizacion molecular

The effect of PPA and sulfur on major physical properties, including toughness and tenacity, aging resistance, and storage stability was investigated. The structural characteristics of SBS-modified (SM) asphalt, SBS/PPA-modified (SPM) asphalt, and SBS/PPA/sulfur-modified (SPSM) asphalt were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), gel filtration chromatography (GPC), and thermal analysis. It has been found that acidification prompted the clustering of SBS particles and confined the swelling of SBS, making SPM asphalt more susceptible to aging. Vulcanization changed the morphological characteristics of SBS in asphalt, improved the compatibility between SBS and asphalt, and weakened the aging susceptibility. Therefore, it is reasonable to modify SM asphalt by using PPA and sulfur together. The use of particles in fibre-reinforced composite structures usually improves the strength of the basic material. Alumina (Al2O3), with its unique properties, has been used to improve the composite material's properties. It is crucial to determine the appropriate concentration of Al2O3 particles that can be added to Polypropylene whisker/epoxy composites to get the required mechanical and physical properties. In this study lamination 80:20 resin was used as a matrix material to prepare a Polypropylene whisker (3%wt.) reinforced lamination 80:20 resin (PP/resin) composite. The composite materials were manufactured by hand lay-up method. Different concentrations (1, 3, 5, 7 & 10wt.%) of alumina (Al2O3) particles, were used to reinforce the composite. The composite materials are prepared with standard sizes according to the tests, the tests include mechanical tests (tensile, impact, and hardness test) and physical tests (water absorption and density). The tests results showed an improvement in tensile strength, elongation, toughness, fracture toughness, hardness and density, while the water absorption diminishes concerning an increase in the concentration of the Al2O3 particles. The tensile strength, elongation, elastic modulus, hardness and density improved from (17 MPa, 1.3%, 1.13GPa, 70 Shore D and 0.93gm/cm3) respectively for neat lamina and reach the maximum value (34.5 MPa, 3.1%, 1.47 GPa, 83 Shore D and 1.01 gm/cm3) respectively at (3%wt. PP and 10%wt. Al2O3), while the toughness and fracture toughness improved from (3.8 KJ/m2 and 0.06 MPa.m1/2) respectively for neat lamina and reach the maximum value (23.1 KJ/m2 and 0.19 MPa.m1/2) respectively at (3%wt. PP and 7%wt. Al2O3). Note de contenu : - Materials and Methods

Tannage Résumé : A chromium-free amphoteric polymer retanning agent was prepared by free radical polymerization reaction of undecylenic aldehyde (UAL), acrylic acid (AA) and dimethyl diallyl ammonium chloride (DADMAC) as raw materials. The structure of amphoteric polymer retanning agent was characterized by FT-IR and 1H-NMR. Amphoteric polymer retanning agent was applied to the retanning of vegetable-tanned light leather to investigate the binding ability of crust leather to anionic dyes, fat liquoring agent and physical-mechanical properties of the crust leather. The results showed that the synthesized amphoteric polymer retanning agent was successfully prepared. The application trial indicated that the amphoteric polymer retanning agent can improve the binding capacity between leather and anion dye and fat liquoring agent in the retanning process. The dye absorption rate of the crust leather was up to 99.58% and the dyeing liquor was clear. Furthermore, color of the crust leather was uniform and full and its K/S value and drywet rub fastness, thickening rate and physical-mechanical properties were higher than that of the retanned leather by acrylic resin retanning agent. In addition, the crust leather after retanning with amphoteric polymer retanning agent has good softness, and the absorption rate of fat liquoring agent was 99.62%. The above results showed that amphoteric polymer retanning agent possessed the good retanning property in vegetable tanned sheep garment leather.

Tannage Résumé : In this study, investigations were performed on the effect of atmospheric pressure plasma modification after the retanning process on sheep leathers and wastewater of the processes. The plasma treatments of the leather samples were carried out with an argon containing corona discharge at atmospheric pressure. Argon atmospheric pressure plasma (APP) activation was applied to the crust sheep leather surface with different times (0, 3, 6, 9 sec/cm2). After argon APP application, the crust sheep leathers were processed by traditional retannage. The surface properties of the treated sheep leathers were characterised by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and an atomic force microscopy (AFM). The chemical composition of the leather surfaces was evaluated by ATR-FTIR and the surface state of the leathers was determined by contact angle measurements. The discharged chrome retanning and retanning wastewaters at the end of the processes were examined in order to determine the differences in the wastewater in terms of COD, BOD5, conductivity, turbidity, pH, salinity, total dissolved solids content (TDS) and total chromium content analyses.
