We fabricated samples 13y a lyophilization technique utilizing the corresponding hide powder fibre (HPF). The oil sorption capacity, sorption saturation time, and retention capacity of prepared sorbents were studied. The results showed that oil sorption capacity of PDMS-modified HPF for silicone oil and vegetable (rape) oil were 6.98 and 5.58g/g, respectively. This sample exhibited the highest oil sorption capacity. The resuits suggest that with appropriate pore size, high porosity and low apparent surface energy, collagen fibre based sorbent would demonstrate favourable oil sorption characteristics and is very promising for ail cleanup application. Tannage Résumé : Low temperature plasma (LTP) technology is a green, solvent-free, clean, efficient environment-friendly surface treatment technology. The pioneering works were carried out by applying LTP to surface modification of natural leather in order to improve the chrome tanning exhaustion rate. The effects of different treatment time on tanning exhaustion rate, micro-structure, chemical compositions, mechanical and organoleptic properties of leather were studied. The optimal CO2 plasma treatment time is about 10 min, at which the chrome tanning exhaustion rate increases from 78.49% to 91.82% compared with untreated leather. The SEM results show that some micro-pores, fissures, deep ravines and filamentous fibers can be observed due to the surface etching effect. From the XPS analysis, compared with the untreated leather, the O1s concentration and the O1s/C1s ratio of the 10min LTP modified leather both increase from 18.75% to 28.85% and from 0.258 to 0.479, respectively. The results show that appropriate LTP process can effectively improve the chrome tanning exhaustion rate, which reduces the emission of heavy metal chromium in waste liquor and also has a good synergistic effect on improving the comprehensive performance of leather such as hydrothermal stability, physical-mechanical and organoleptic properties. The LTP modification technology may be a new potential method for cleaner high-exhaustion chrome tanning technology. InflammabilitéIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The influences of seven kinds of oils on the flammability of pig chrome leather have been studied. The flammability of the fatliquored leathers was evaluated by the vertical flame test and Oxygen Index Test. The results show that the 7 oils increase the fire resistance of leather. The effect is especially shown by sulphated oils which have a more apparent effect than sulphited oils. The leathers which were fatliquored with sulphited fish oil, sulphated neatsfoot oil and lecithin have a stronger glow resistance than the leathers either not fatliquored or treated with other oils. The results should supply a basis for the preparation of fire-resistant leather. Technique des plasmasIndex. décimale : 675.3 Technologie de la fourrure Résumé : In order to find out changes of the Rex rabbit hair under different Low Temperature Plasma (LTP) treatments, Rex rabbit hair fibres which were modified by oxygen, nitrogen, and air plasma, were examined by XPS, ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometery, Lab-eye software, HP-386 multi-angle gloss meter, YM-06A electronic single fibre strength meter, as well as by a Y151 fibre friction coefficient tester. The results show that oxygen plasma, nitrogen plasma and air plasma can all dramatically enhance exhaustion and fixation rate of Rex rabbit hair during dyeing. Treatment with air plasma and nitrogen plasma introduced more -NH2 to the surface of Rex rabbit hair fibres, promoting the reaction between -N1-12 and -SO3H of an anionic dyestuff in an acidic medium. Besides, the oxidation of oxygen plasma introduces polar functional groups such as hydroxyl or carbonyl, thus improving the hydrophilicity of Rex rabbit hair fibres. Compared with fibres without plasma treatment, the dyeing depth of fibres treated with oxygen, air, and nitrogen plasma has been significantly enhanced. ln addition, the rupture strength and elongation as well as glossiness of fibres reduces to a slight extent after LTP treatment with oxygen, nitrogen, and air. Ultimately, after oxygen, air and nitrogen plasma, the gap between the friction coefficients of against and along scale is narrowed, which can enhance the ability of the anti-felting performance. Technique des plasmasIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Chrome is a serious pollutant in the environment due to its toxicity and the low utilization inchrome tanning. To study the effect of low temperature plasma (LTP) on the absorption of chrome in tanning process, oxygen plasma was used to modify pickled skin. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to observe the surface morphology changes of wet-blue leather due to LTP treatment. The analysis by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) showed that the oxygen content of the pickled skin and the chromium content of the tanned leather increased remarkably. White hide powder (collagen fibre mimic) was modified by LTP and it was shown that the amount of carboxyl and carbonyl groups on the fibre surface increased significantly. The increase in oxygen-containing groups such as carboxyl, carbonyl, thus increased the content of combined chrome. Therefore, LTP will provide a new exploratory method for high-exhaustion chrome tanning technology. As this is a new applcation opportunities are limited due to the lack of suitable industrial equipment which will need to be developed. The new application is allied to that described in 'Study of unhairing with LTP4 which was presented at the 7th Asian Conference of Leather Science and Technology.
