Ultrasons
Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Photoageing score - Ultrasound assessment - Ultrasound image analysis - Echogenicity - Thickness - Statistical analysis

Tests de sécuritéIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : A global tendency for products considered environmentally sustainable, and ecologically obtained led the industry related to personal care formulations to fund the research and the development of personal care/cosmetics containing ingredients from natural resources. Furthermore, consumers are aware of environmental and sustainability issueans, thus not harming the environment represents a key consideration when developing a new cosmetic ingredient. In this study we review some examples of active ingredients or raw materials used in cosmetics/personal care/biomedical products that are coming from either through biotechnological systems, or as byproducts of several industries. A skin formulation containing biosynthetic actives, prepared by us and the study regarding its dermocosmetic properties are also described. The need for the standardization processes, the safety assessment tools, the improvement of the exploitation methods of these renewable sources in order the production to be ecologically and economically better are also discussed. Tests de sécuritéIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : - Objective : A key factor that is deficient in most environmental emissions assessments for UV filters is a keen understanding of consumer habits and practices that can inform realistic exposure assessments. This study utilized a large volunteer survey (>11 000 persons) that captured many factors that affect consumer-based loadings to aquatic environments. The purpose of this study was to utilize this large survey to identify factors that affect the amount of sunscreen products used by consumers.
- Methods : Correlations among more than 20 variables were used to provide an understanding of the overall dataset and identify factors that may be related to the amount of sunscreen product applied to the body (i.e., application thickness). Forward multiple linear regressions were used to identify the relative importance of each of these factors alone and in combination with others in predicting the amount of applied sunscreen.
- Results : The proportion of body surface area (BSA) covered by sunscreen was the primary factor related to application thickness, followed by body surface area of the survey participant, seasonal usage, Fitzpatrick skin type and the sun protection factor, respectively. Each of the five regression models examined was statistically highly significant.
- Conclusions : Comparisons to recommendations from the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine parameters illustrated sufficient differences so as to encourage the development of future consumer habits and practice surveys that include factors beyond the scope of this study (e.g., activities, time of day, year, location, etc.) that can lead to improved exposure and risk assessments.Note de contenu : - Online survey of sunscreen usage

Tests de sécuritéIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : - Objective : A recently proposed self-assessment questionnaire aimed at diagnosing sensitive skin provided promising results in a relatively small population. The main objectives were: (i) to assess the reliability of the aforementioned questionnaire in a larger population and verify the cut-off score previously found to predict skin sensitivity (defined as positivity to LAST, lactic acid stinging test) and (ii) to define a formula that yields the probability of a positive LAST result.
- Methods : Adult volunteers were included in this observational, cross-sectional, extended study. Both LAST-positive subjects, who were considered as having sensitive skin (‘patients’) and negative ones (‘controls’) completed the questionnaire, which concerned sensitivity to possible triggers of unpleasant skin sensations in real life. A cumulative score (questionnaire-based skin sensitivity score, 0–10) was calculated from the sum of all items.
- Results : Three hundred and sixty-four subjects were enrolled, 214 patients and 150 controls. The mean questionnaire-based skin sensitivity score was significantly higher among patients than controls. Using two different methods, cut-off values of 4 and 5 were defined for the identification of LAST-positive subjects, with 76.6% and 72.8% accuracy, respectively. Scores below 4 or above 5 showed a high (80% or better) negative or positive predictive value, respectively. The coefficients found that in multivariate analysis for each questionnaire item, gender and age allowed us to calculate the probability of LAST positivity with higher precision taking into account the 'relative weight' of each factor.
- Conclusion : With small variations in the results, the self-assessment questionnaire confirmed its reliability for diagnosing sensitive skin in clinical practice.Note de contenu : - MATERIAL AND METHODS : Study design and population - Statistical analysis

New ingredient testing strategy - Ingredient review - Quantitative structural activity relationship - In vitro testing Phase 1 and 2 - Margin of safety - Human compatibility testing
