The European DIY paint industry has undergone a great deal of change over the last few years. As consumer lifestyles and sophistication evolve, experts at the Rohm and Haas Paint Quality Institute (PQI) believe that new, more powerful paint technologies will need to be developed to cope with the increasing demands consumers place on paint products. While the UK market reflects this trend most clearly, the German market is following, according to extensive pan-European research carried out by PQI. The UK market has witnessed a dramatic change over the past decade in terms of how consumers perceive the DIY paint category. Fuelled by ever rising house prices and the steady rise of TV makeover programmes since the mid 1990s, DIY painting has shifted from being seen as a male-dominated chore to an increasingly popular leisure activity. The British have gone paint crazy, according to PQI research - 42% of households have carried out a DIY paint task in the past 12 weeks. Added to this, the level of pleasure derived from painting is high - 39% positively enjoy giving their home a lick of paint. Many in fact regard painting as a form of self-expression and creativity - the colours you choose become an expression of who you are and the way you live.Note de contenu : - Knowledge is power

For optical performance the traditional alkyd/MF paint has an advantages over the two powder coatings systems. However from an environmental standpoint would be preferred to the solvent containing alkyd/MF paint. The epoxy/polyester coating, is from a raw material cost perspective, substantially cheaper than the UV powder coating. However, when giving consideration to the full coating process coats, the UV powder coating will be more advantageous for time (fast UV curing cycle) and energy (low melt schedule). Another major benefit is that the UV powder coating can be used with heat sensitive substrates, like plastics and wood that are distorted at the higher temperatures required for cure in thermosetting systems.Note de contenu : - Methodology

In the process, some of the lacquer misses the mark, dirties the door leaf surface and has to be washed off with solvent. A supplier of supplier of interior doors, together with a machine builder, set out to find a more environmentally friendly environmentally friendly solution that would also save costs. The result : A reduction of cleaning solvent use by 15-20 tons per year. Note de contenu : - Looking for an environment-friendly solution

In current market conditions, cost savings and product innovation are critical issues. In this article, an artificial neural network, of the feed forward type, was trained using as inputs key properties of titanium dioxide and two formulation parameters (pigment volume concentration and titanium dioxide content) for a water-based architectural coating. The outputs of this research were spread rate, color (L*, a*, b*) and tinting strength. Test data were used to check the accuracy of the model, demonstrating the viability of paint properties prediction related to the properties of the titanium dioxide formulation with high correlation (>95%). Revêtements en phase aqueuse:Peinture en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The acrylic polymer latex can be prepared via semi-continuous seeded emulsion polymerisation of BA and MMA in a water phase initiated with KPS when nonylphenol ethoxylates and sodium dodecyl-benzenesulfonate are replaced with APG and SFAMES, respectively. Both APG and SFAMES are not derived from petroleum. The structure of the acrylic polymer latex is confirmed with an FT1R spectrum. The uni modal distribution of particle size also confirms that the acrylic polymer latex has been prepared successfully. The optimum recipe of preparing the acrylic polymer latex has been obtained.
