To obtain materials with very special properties, it may be necessary to reduce the interaction between the particles by keeping them in a certain distance. This kalis to the concept of nanocomposites consisting of two phases: An active one and a passive distance holder phase.
A nanocomposite is a multiphase solid material where one of the phases has one, two or three dimensions of less than 100 nanometer (nm), or structures having nano-scale repeat distances between the different phases that make up the material. In the broadest sense this definition can include porous media, colloids, gels and copolymers, but is more usually taken to mean the solid combination of a bulk matrix and nano-dimensional phase(s) differing in properties due to dissimilarities in structure and chemistry.
In this paper we tried to cover the synthesis of material nanocomposites, polymer nanocomposites & put light on varieties of nano composites. The paper covers mechanical, electrical, self healing and many smart properties of the nanocomposite which differ markedly from that of the normal component materials. |
