In this article, we explain the criteria governing what constitutes industrial use and the distinction from professional use, along with the most important aspects relating to limited submissions. Most important consequences of these new regulations and the experience from coating manufacturers with their implementation will be discussed.
Will this mean that we will see less new regulation in the next couple of years ? The author will review items that should affect our industry and that are currently under discussion or that will soon be on the agenda of the european authorities.Note de contenu : - REACH : What is REACH ? - Key dates - Other key dates - Exposure scenarios - Downstream users concerns after the first registration deadline

Revêtements -- Législation -- EuropeTags : 'Anti-biofouling' Barnacle 'Législation européenne' 'Peinture non toxique' Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The question of how to tackle the problem of biofouling with coatings, while complying with increasingly stringent international regulations on water polllution, has proved problematic for the marine transport industry : the challenge is how to develop a non-toxic solution that reduces the adhesive strength of barnacles, sea squirts and other marine animals, without killing them or releasing toxic by-products. Biofouling can be a real headache for the marine industry ; for example, a ship laden with unwanted and adhesive passengers can use up to 40 % more fuel just to match the speed of a barnacle-free ship. The problem has become more urgent since the International Maritime Organization (IMO) International Convention on the Control of Harmful Antifouling Systems on Ships came into force in September 2008. IMO is continuing to urge all its members to ratify this convention while researchers simultaneously seek to fill the "technology gap" and develop novel anti-biofouling coatings, which work through their physicochemical properties rather than the release of biocides.
