Spectrométrie infrarougeIndex. décimale : 667.6 Peintures Résumé : En France, d'après les statistiques officielles du Ministère de l'Intérieur, on dénombre annuellement plus de 100 000 délits de fuite après accident (135 147 en 2008), soit environ 25 % des délits routiers constatés, ce qui représente la deuxième source de délits après la conduite sous l'emprise de l'alcool. Afin d'identifier le véhicule en fuite, les sections Physique-Chimie des laboratoires de police scientifique de l'INPS (Institut National de Police Scientifique) utilisent différentes techniques d'analyse chimique, comme la spectrométrie infrarouge. Après analyses, les résultats sont comparés avec ceux obtenus pour des véhicules automobiles présents dans la base de données sur les peintures automobiles. Cette base de données est issue d'une collaboration fructueuse qui débuta au milieu des années 1990 entre différents laboratoires de police scientifiques européens. La mise en oeuvre de ce « fichage chimique » des peintures automobiles se révèle être une aide précieuse dans la « manifestation de la vérité ».
