Treatment of textile dyeing wastewater by electrocoagulation using Fe and Al electrodes : optimisation of operating parameters using central composite design / Mehmet Kobya in COLORATION TECHNOLOGY, Vol. 130, N° 3 (06/2014)
[article]
Titre : Treatment of textile dyeing wastewater by electrocoagulation using Fe and Al electrodes : optimisation of operating parameters using central composite design Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Mehmet Kobya, Auteur ; Erhan Gengec, Auteur ; Mehmet Tonay Sensoy, Auteur ; Erhan Demirbas, Auteur Année de publication : 2014 Article en page(s) : p. 226-235 Note générale : Bibliogr.

StatistiqueIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Textile dyeing wastewater was treated by electrocoagulation using aluminium and iron plate electrodes. Response surface methodology and central composite design were applied in the experiments and in statistical data analysis. A current density of 30–100 A m?2, an initial pH of 4–8, and an operating time of 10–40 min were chosen as independent variables, and the chemical oxygen demand, total organic carbon, and turbidity removal efficiencies and the operating cost were selected as responses in the electrocoagulation process. The developed quadratic models for the responses and the experimental data were in good agreement with model predictions statistically (R2 ? 0.92, Adj R2 ? 0.82, and Prob > F < 0.004). The optimised operating variables (initial pH, current density, and operating time) and the maximum total organic carbon, chemical oxygen demand, and turbidity removal efficiencies for textile dyeing wastewater were 5.5, 63.2 A m?2, 30.4 min, 77%, 82%, and 94% for the iron electrode and 5.6, 52.5 A m?2, 33.9 min, 68%, 69% and 99% for the aluminium electrode respectively. Minimum operating costs for the iron and aluminium electrodes under optimum conditions were €2.1 m?3 (€1.0 kg?1 COD) and €2.4 m?3 (€1.6 kg?1 COD). The iron electrode was found to be superior to the aluminium electrode in terms of removal efficiencies and operating cost for the treatment of textile dyeing wastewater. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A bifunctional reactive bis-phosphonoalkylaminotriazine dye was synthesised by condensing 2 mol of aminoethylphosphonic acid with the commercially available bis-monochloro-s-triazinyl dye, CI Reactive Red 120. A similar but much lower molecular weight dye was prepared by condensing the commercially available dichloro-s-triazine dye, Procion Red MX 8B, with aminomethylphosphonate. A model aryl-phosphonate dye was also prepared by diazotising m-aminobenzene-phosphonic acid and coupling the diazonium salt to R-salt. These dyes were isolated as their free acids and then converted to their ammonium salts. Pad liquors containing dye, cyanamide and ammonium dihydrogen phosphate were applied to cotton fabric. In the case of the bis-phosphonoethylamino-s-triazine dye, very high dye–fibre fixation values (>90%) were achieved using a pad–batch–bake procedure; for the Procion T model dye, the comparative maximum fixation was only modest. In the absence of cyanamide, no fixation could be obtained for the arylphosphonate dye but both bis-phosphonoalkylaminotriazine dyes gave significant fixation. SemiconducteursIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Novel, tunable solid-state emitters based on anthracene groups were synthesised and characterised by spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Their solid-state photoluminescence properties were studied. These fluorophores display interesting solid-state emission properties with an emission at wavelengths ranging from 550 to 650 nm when excited by a 325 nm helium–cadmium laser at room temperature. In particular, among them, 1,6-di(9-anthryl)hexa-1,5-diene-3,4-dione, 2-[4-(2-benzoxazolyl)phenyl]-4,5-bis[2-(9-anthryl)vinyl]-1H-imidazole and 2,3-bis[2-(9-anthryl)vinyl]quinoxaline show red, yellow and green emission, respectively, at 650, 584 and 550 nm. The results demonstrated that the luminescent colours can be tuned from red to yellow and green by simply varying molecular structure. Besides, 1,6-di(9-anthryl)hexa-1,5-diene-3,4-dione also exhibited an upconverted red fluorescent emission peak at around 675 nm under femtosecond excitation at 800 nm. UltrasonsIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : India is the largest producer of jute in the world and the use of this natural fibre in various value-added applications is gaining momentum. The use of white biotechnology involving enzymes for the efficient processing of jute is considered to boost its productivity. The present investigation deals with the pretreatment of jute by using ultrasound-assisted enzymatic scouring followed by bleaching and dyeing. The process showed optimum removal of impurities and improved water absorption capacity with minimal damage to fibre tensile strength. The process parameters and conditions were determined by response surface methodology, where weight loss of jute was kept as the main response. The optimised recipe obtained was 2.8% enzyme concentration, 1 g/L wetting agent at 55°C for 10 minutes at an ultrasound frequency of 40 kHz. The optimised recipe was compared with conventional high-temperature long-duration enzymatic scouring and was found to have an equal performance. Further, the scoured jute was dyed with a natural dye extracted from sappan wood and madder. Fourier Transform-infrared analysis was used for characterisation. The wash and light fastness of dyed jute yarn were evaluated and found to meet the industry norms.

UltrasonsIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The current study elaborates on the capabilities of ultrasonic waves in improving the conventional method for analysis of banned aromatic amines in dyed textile samples. Wool, linen and cotton were dyed according to their relative affinity with a selected benzidine-based dye, CI Direct Red 28. The standard procedure, BS EN 14362-1:2012, was used for testing dyed textile samples, with final estimation through gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The dyed samples, after reduction, released a significant quantity of benzidine (listed banned amine), hence were chosen for experiments with ultrasound-assisted reduction (UAR). To explore the influence of ultrasound energy on the reduction of bis azo dye, the standard procedure for analysis of banned aromatic amines in textiles was modified incorporating minor changes. The reduction step in the altered methods was performed with ultrasonic aid in less time, while the rest of the method remained unmodified. The altered procedure was designated as “method 2”. Samples were quantified with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The extent of the reduction was correlated with wetting characteristics of textile materials. The results from the standard test procedure were used for comparison with those obtained from UAR trials. The UAR method in the case of wool, assessed in terms of greenness, provided noticeable time and energy savings. A comparative account of the chosen matrices with respect to dye reduction is also presented.
