Spectroscopie RamanIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : Oxidised aluminum coatings are useful in various high technology applications to protect surfaces from negative environmental effects. In this study, aluminum discs and foils of industrial alloys were anodised in a sulphuric acid/oxalic acid electrolyte. Scanning electron microscopy was used to determine the pore diameter, distribution and surface porosity. The anodising procedure was adapted to produce near‐hollow templates on aluminium foil, onto which aqueous solutions of commercial chromium‐complexed anionic azodyes were dropped. Raman spectroscopy was used to detect the penetration of dye compounds based on the most intensive vibrational modes. Each dye was successfully monitored to assess its penetration rate and behaviour in the anodised coating. This method could be applied to characterise newly developed organic dyes for aluminum colouring. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Procedure - Characterisation

PigmentsIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : The automotive and performance coatings industries have seen a significant shift from solvant to waterborne systems in recent years. This change has brought challenges to paint formulators. One of those challenges is producing colours ta match those of solvent systems in vibrancy and undertones, particularly with low surface functionality pigments such as perylene, phthalocyanine blues and high jet carbon black pigments. To overcome those challenges, novel dispersants with unique structure and chemistry have been developed to produce better colour performance and jetness than ever before in waterborne coatings. Understanding the relations between the dispersant's chemistry, structure and affinity to organic pigment surface will help the formulator net only optimise colour performance but also understand and control other parameters that are key to production efficiency, such as grind lime (energy) and grind viscosity (pigment loading). Système de changement de couleurIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : The current study focuses on the fabrication of a mixed chemical colorimetric pH dye-based indicator to monitor the freshness of ready-to-cook (RTC) idli batter stored under ambient conditions. The base of the indicator label was created using Acetobacter xylinum culture for the fabrication of a bacterial cellulose (BC) membrane film, and the characteristics of the developed film were analysed. Scanning electron microscopy identified the presence of a cellulose fibrils network and Fourier Transform–infrared spectroscopy indicated the presence of an amine group at wavenumber 1642 cm−1 on the developed BC film. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis identified the glass transition, onset, melting and end set melt temperatures as −30.3, 42.2, 85.6 and 105.9°C, respectively, and enthalpy as 209.2 Jg−1. The tensile strength of the developed base layer was found to be low at 27.11 ± 0.05 MPa. The developed base layer was coated with mixed colorimetric pH dyes of bromothymol blue and methyl red in a ratio of 2:3. The fabricated mixed colorimetric indicator label reacted as the carbon dioxide concentrations in the headspace increased from 0.15% ± 0.05% to 17.64% ± 0.11% (v/v) for up to 24 hours, and displayed a colour change of yellow for fresh to reddish orange for spoiled RTC idli batter stored under ambient conditions. [article]
