The specific Arctic groups with historical evidence of fish leather production are the Alutiiq, Yup'ik and Athabascan of Alaska; the Nivkh, Nanai and Ulchi Siberian peoples; the Ainu from Hokkaido island, Japan and Sakhalin Island, Russia; the Hezhen from northeast China; and Icelanders.
The Arctic indigenous peoples have maintained a strong relationship with the environment, developing a subsistence lifestyle depending on marine animal resources for food and clothing. To a population dependent upon the sea for its daily livelihood and food, having the right clothing was of greatest importance. Fishskins were used as a protection against wind on parkas, boots, mittens and blankets. Traditional tanned fishskin artefacts not using any chemically active principles have lasted remarkably long in museums.
The aim of the research was to identify the biochemical logic of the traditional tanning process using natural principles with a very low environmental impact in order to introduce them in a near future to contemporary industrial tanning, reducing the supply of chemicals, the environmental impact, generating cleaner water and less CO2. To evaluate the process, samples of fish leather were undertaken using skin processing technology based on traditional knowledge from Arctic indigenous communities. The results were compared to those of commercial contemporary chrome- and vegetable-tanned fish leather from the Icelandic tannery Atlantic Leather. Traditional methods used in this study include processing with bark, brain, urine, oil, corn flour and mechanical softening.Note de contenu : - THE COMPOSITION OF FISHKIN

Note de contenu : - MATERIAUX ET RESULTATSZ EXPERIMENTAUX : Matériaux et préparation

VernisIndex. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : A wide range of colours, innovative processes and the desire for new features such as dirt-repellent surfaces are determining the direction of paint development. Does this also mean problems for high-performance adhesives in the assembly shop ? To answer this question, we need to examine the adhesion phenomena at the adhesive/clearcoat interface. The following report presents the foundations for targeted adhesive development. Furthermore, it discusses the critical points for adhesive bonding on future paint generations and suggests potential solutions. Note de contenu : - PAINT AS A SUBSTRATE

Index. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : Waterborne systems, based on polychloroprene dispersions have proven to be suitable in replacing solventborne contact adhesives in many applications. In foam adhesives for furniture and mattress production, polychloroprene (CR) dispersions are gaining a share relative to traditional solventborne adhesives. One reason is that such waterborne adhesives can be formulated as one-component (1K) adhesives, combining the full wet adhesion potential offered by polychloroprene dispersions with the simple and reliable handling of 1K formulations, while fulfilling relevant requirements on VOC regulations.
An easy method to yield activated formulations through pH reduction, with improved wet tack properties for spray application on various substrates is presented. For rolling/brushing application, we show that the combination of polychloroprene, with selected nanosilica dispersions, creates a network structure providing significant improvements in the cohesive strength, as well as the heat resistance of the adhesive.Note de contenu : - Improving performance of wb contact adhesives by crosslinking with nanosilica sols
