Produits de beauté masculinsIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : It has recently been said that the long awaited growth in men's grooming product sales is starting to take hold. A combination of greater product efficacy and a graduel change in attitude towards taking pride in one's appearance has seen greater acceptance of a wider range of personal care products aimed at men. Some of this may be driven by an increased pressure on men to retain their looks and compete with younger people as men and women continue to work later into life. Holding on to youthfulness has typically been a pressure on women, but with an unusually long period of global economic uncertainty and with it a rise in divorce rates, men have perhaps found themselves needing to stave off the ravages of time more and more.
Beyond shaving products, deodorant and aftershave this new market has the potential to grow and eventually match that of traditional women's skin care. But why should the products differ at ail beyond their marketing strategy?
The relative differences between men and women have been the subject of discussions for thousands of years, but their attitudes towards using cosmetics and personal care products are as much to do with nurture as nature. However, men and women's skin differ in a number of ways, both as a result of their composition and the daily challenges they face. Understanding and recognising these differences will help formulators develop future men's grooming products that truly benefit male skin.Note de contenu : - SKIN COMPOSITION

Glycidyl methacrylate grafted natural rubber (NR-g-GMA) was used as a compatibilizer. The main objective of this research is to study the degradability of PLA and PLA composites under soil burial test. It was shown that vetiver grass fiber showed a significant role in the degradability of PLA composites under soil burial condition. Mechanical properties of PLA composites dramatically decreased after burial in soil compared to those of pure PLA. Moreover, addition of vetiver grass fiber at 20 and 30 % (w/w) content led to a significant increase in weight loss of the specimens with increasing burial time. From SEM micrographs, better interfacial adhesion between PLA, vetiver grass fiber, and NR particles was observed with the addition of NR-g-GMA. This indicated that the compatibility of PLA/vetiver/NR can be improved by using NR-g-GMA. Furthermore, mechanical properties of injection molded PLA and PLA composites were compared with those of compression molded samples. Injection molded specimens of neat PLA and PLA composites showed higher tensile strength than compression molded specimens. This may be due to the result of higher fiber orientation along flow direction in injection molding. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Composites preparation - Characterization

Revêtements intérieurs:Peinture intérieureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : While there is an intuitive connection between wall brightness and the electrical demand for illuminating a room, there has been little data reported to quantify this relationship. Here, we report the relative electrical load needed to light a room at the 500 lux level specified by European lighting standard EN12464-1:2011, as a function of wall brightness. A room was painted white, black, and two intermediate shades of gray, and room brightness was measured at multiple locations and directions using four light levels (controlled with a light dimmer), for both warm and cool fluorescent bulbs. Results were compared to computer modeling. Based on these results, we determined the expected electrical requirements for rooms painted with over a dozen "colors of the year," as designated by major décor coatings manufacturers. The results were compared to the electrical requirement for a white wall. Significant energy savings are possible when painting a dark wall white. Note de contenu : - Implications for paint consumers

Tannage Résumé : Four different samples of cow softy leather (designated CSAS0, CSAS1, CSAS2, and CSAS3) were prepared from a chrome-tanned cow wet-blue of Indien origin. CSAS0 was the control sample wherein no polyacrylate based syntan was added. OSAS1, CSAS2, and CSAS3 contain different polyacrylate based syntans (3% w/w), differing in molecular weight, in addition to the other common auxiliaries used in ail of the four samples. Other unit operations (physical and chemical) for manufacturing leather were the same in ail the samples. Thermal, mechanical, and solvent swelling behaviour of these four semples were studied and we attempted to correlate them with the cross-linking densities of the samples. The swelling behaviour was studied in five different solvents (e.g. water, toluene, xylene, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), and acetone), assuming definite solvent-bovine collagen interaction parameters and respective cross link densities were evaluated by the Flory-Rehner equation. While studying the mechanical behaviour, some distinguished theoretical models (e.g. Mooney-Rivlin, Flory, and Martin, Roth & Stiehler (MRS)) were tried to fit with the experimental results obtained during stress-stain analyses. In this process a few constants for cow Cr-tanned leather were derived as values of constant A in MRS equation remained in the range of 0.9-1.0, and value of constant B in Flory's equation remained in the range of 0.001-0.005, which had not been reported in the literature. The experimental results showed that the polyacrylate based syntan, bearing a higher level of free acrylic acid groups or a fewer proportion of esterified acrylic acid groups, formed better cross links with chrome-tanned bovine leather in comparison to other polyacrylate based syntans containing higher proportions of esterified acrylic acid groups. Moreover, high molecular weight polyacrylate based syntans provided better thermal and solvent resistance in comparison to low molecular weight polyacrylate based syntans. Etudes comparativesIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : The structure and bleaching/dyeing behaviour of hair sampled from people of various ages were investigated to provide guidance for wig-making. Hair surface and cross-sectional morphology were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, whereas the number density and size of melanin granules were evaluated by transmission electron microscopy. The suitability of hair for dyeing was determined by the trade-off between the fracture strength and lightness of bleached samples. Hair collected from 26-year-olds showed the highest number density and the lowest size of melanin granules, thus featuring the lowest mechanical strength reduction and the highest lightness increase after bleaching. The optimal bleaching conditions for such hair were identified as bleaching time = 80 minutes, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentration = 60 mL/L, and bleaching temperature = 75°C. Considering its resilience to damage and favourable dyeing behaviour, hair sampled from 26-year-olds was concluded to be most suitable for wig-making. Thus, the present research provides guidance for the selection of raw materials for wig-making.
