PolypropylèneIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Understanding of polypropylene (PP) foaming is critically important to reduce the weight of automotive parts. In this study, we used a batch foaming simulation system with visualization cell, to observe the foaming behaviors of PP that is blown with CO2 and N2 under various experimental conditions. We found that the nucleating agent content, initial temperature, pressure (i. e., gas content), and pressure drop rate during foaming have a significant effect on cell nucleation and cell growth. The cell density and the void fraction of PP foamed with CO2 and N2, respectively, were separately observed and compared. It was found that under the same experimental conditions, the maximum cell density of PP foamed with CO2 was higher than that of PP foamed with N2. However, the maximum cell density of PP foamed with CO2 was determined to be lower than that of PP foamed with N2, when the same gas mole numbers were employed. Based on the experimental results, optimum foaming conditions and effective processing strategies for PP-CO2 system are suggested.

Teinture -- Fibres textilesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : In this study, cotton fabrics were dyed with reactive dyes in conventional water‐based and solvent‐based reverse micellar dyeing systems. In solvent‐based dyeing, heptane replaced water as the medium. Three commercially available reactive dyes with the primary colours of red, blue and yellow were used. Dyeing with different dye concentrations was conducted to establish calibration dyeing databases for computer colour matching (CCM). Colours produced by mixing known concentrations of primary colours were used as standard samples for CCM. Different colour difference formulae were used for predicting dye concentrations in the standard samples from CCM. Results revealed that the predicted concentrations were statistically related to the known concentrations for both dyeing methods. This indicates that the solvent‐based reverse micellar dyeing method can achieve colour matching as good as the conventional water‐based dyeing system, and that a large amount of water can be saved.
ThermogravimétrieIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : By using SEM, IR, X-ray, diffraction, DSC, TG, physical and mechanical properties test, the structure and properties of 2 kinds of opaque polyester false-twist textured yarns made by masterbatch spinning and slice spinning were analyzed. The results showed that TiO2 particles had better dispersion and smaller reunite in slice spinning. The infrared spectra of the 2 textured yarns are similar to that of the ordinary polyester fibers. The crystallinity of the textured yarn made by masterbatch spinning is higher than that made by slice spinning. Compared with the ordinary PET fibers, the tenacity and breaking elongation of the 2 polyester fibers are lower, while their friction coefficient are higher. At the same time, both the tenacity and the elongation at break of the textured yarns made by slice spinning are higher than those made by masterbatch spinning, however the friction coefficient is less than that of the masterbatch spinning. The question then arises as to the quality of the leather and the area yield obtainable from fresh hides compared with salted. This comparison was made in three separate trials using 100 fresh and 100 wet salted hides in each trial. Data such as weight, thickness and area of the raw hides was recorded. A proportion of the hides were examined at stages through the processing, and the final leathers were subjected to physical tests.
Apart from a slightly coarser break in the leathers produced from the fresh hides, no consistent differences in handle or physical properties relating to the curing methods could be found in the leathers.
When the yield of leather was estimated on a weight basis either tail or green fleshed weight, no statistically significant difference in yield was found between the two curing methods.
As the raw hides of the same weight differed considerably in area and thickness, a more precise basis for calculation of yield is one based on area. This was calculated for 50 hides in each of the three packs. Overall no statistically significant difference in yield was found relating to the curing methods.
From this work we have concluded that there is no consistent difference between fresh and salted hides with regard to the yield and quality of leather produced from them.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PLAN : Processing - Measurements made - Sampling for laboratory investigation
