The corn husk fiber was extracted from the outer sheath of the corn by mild alkali treatment. Tensile, flexural and impact tests were conducted to investigate the mechanical behavior of corn husk fiber-PP composite. The analysis showed the improved tensile, flexural and impact characteristics of polypropylene in presence of corn husk fiber. Since corn husk exists in abundance, the feasibility of using this fiber in conjunction with polypropylene to develop composite materials for automobile application is very promising. The research shows the great potential of using corn husk fiber to reinforce into polypropylene. The thermal properties are also investigated in this paper.
Currently, polymeric based composite materials are being used for many life applications such as automotive, sporting goods, marine, electrical, industrial, construction, household appliances etc., because of their unique properties with high strength and stiffness, light weight, economical and corrosion resistance. In the past decade, the research work on polymer based composite materials has been devoted as the use of these materials has been increased tremendously in many applications. Recently, natural fibers (flax, jute, cotton, coir etc.) have been used as a reinforce material into polymeric based matrix for enhancing the mechanical properties of the basic polymer. Using hybrid nonwovens as semi-finished products, made from a blend of natural and thermoplastic fibers, provide a good basis for high product quality.Note de contenu : - Tensile properties of corn husk-PP composite

Therefore, fibre-reinfored plastic (FRP) rods are often embedded as reinforcing bars in concrete structures operated in severe chloride environments, such as road bridges and piers, because they offer good anticorrosion performance. Here are some results on thermoplstic composites-concrete bonding. Note de contenu : - Table 1 : Different types of FRPs used

Note de contenu : - Essai de traction

Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : Carbon fibers (CF) are exposed to high mechanical stress within the process chain starting from fiber treatment to textile and composite production up to recycling and reuse. Splinter fractures of the fibers can produce alveolar fragments which, according to the WHO criteria (length >5 pm, diameter <3 pm, length : diameter > 3 : 1), must be assumed to have an asbestos-like effect. So far, it has not been clarified which carbon fibers are proue to this splinter fracture behavior and in which concentration fragments are released.
The aim of the CarboBreak project (Funding ID : 03XP0197A) is to gain in-depth knowledge of the fracture behavior of carbon fibers and to investigate the release of respirable fragments under mechanical stress.Note de contenu : - Fig. 1 : Carbon fiber fragments created during tensile testing and shater fracture testing
