Son objectif est de produire des biens et services tout en limitant fortement la consommation et le gaspillage des matières premières, et des sources d'énergies non renouvelables ;

However, the long required lifetime of a barrier coating provides a challenge when attempting to evaluate coating performance. Diffusion cells can be used as a tool to estimate coating barrier properties and lifetime. In this work, a diffusion cell array was designed, constructed, and compared to previous designs, with simplicity being the most important design parameter. Sulfuric acid diffusion through five different coatings was monitored using a battery of cells, and a mathematical model was developed to simulate the experimental data and to study diffusion mechanisms. The diffusion cells allowed an objective and fast analysis of coating barrier properties. It was found that sulfuric acid deteriorated these properties as it diffused through the films. This was also expressed in the modeling results, where a three-step time dependency of the diffusion coefficient was required to simulate both acid breakthrough time and the subsequent steady-state flux. A vinyl ester-based coating proved to be the most effective barrier to sulfuric acid diffusion, followed by a polyurethane coating. Amine-cured novolac epoxies provided the least effective protection. Note de contenu : - PREVIOUS DIFFUSION CELL DESIGN

ThermogravimétrieIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Poly(ethylene terephthalate)/organo-modified-montmorillonite (o-MMT) nanocomposites were prepared via melt compounding. A polyester ionomer was used as a compatibilizer to increase the interaction between the nanoclay and PET. The nominal o-MMT content was 2 wt.% and the ionomer/organoclay (mass ratio) was 3 : 1. The samples were characterized by WAXD, SEM, TEM, TGA, rheometry, DSC, O2 permeation and tensile testing. It was found that the addition of the ionomer improved the dispersion of the nanoclay particles in the PET matrix, leading to an exfoliated structure for the samples prepared by twin screw extrusion and by an internal mixer (Brabender). This was confirmed by larger complex viscosity and storage modulus at low frequency for molten samples. However, a subsequent processing using single screw extrusion to produce films resulted in thermal degradation of the organo-modifier of the clay and collapse of the gallery spacing. DSC results revealed that the cold crystallization temperature of nanocomposites-based films decreased and the melt crystallization temperature increased with the introduction of the organoclay, due to the strong heterogeneous nucleation effect of the clay particles. The tensile modulus of extruded films increased, while the yield strength remained constant with the incorporation of the organoclay. The oxygen permeability of PET-ionomer nanocomposites decreased as compared with samples containing no ionomer. Textiles et tissusIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The presented review will introduce the use of effect pigments as a powerful tool for the functionalization of textiles. This review starts with a short introduction on the basics of effect pigments and their properties. Subsequently, some principles of effect pigment application onto textiles and the interaction of pigment to binder systems are reported. Different possible functionalizations realized on textiles are presented. Four main types of application are discussed: optical properties, electrical properties, barrier coatings, and antimicrobial applications. Also a view of some prospective anisotropic materials is given. Altogether it is shown that the application of effect pigments can be a powerful tool to realize functional textiles for a broad range of applications in different fields. Pretreating polyimide (PI) and poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) substrates with an aqueous KOH solution greatly lowered the gas permeability of the ALD Al2O3 films as a result of improved affinity between the substrate surface and the ALD precursors. Varying the ALD conditions—including lengthening the precursor exposure, elevating the deposition temperature, and changing the precursor sequence—enhanced physisorption of ALD precursors on the polymer substrate, which improved nucleation of the ALD films to reduce defects in the films and lower their gas permeability. Activation energy for permeation determined from the temperature dependence of the permeability of the ALD films indicated that the ALD films deposited under the optimized condition contained smaller and few permeation-enhancing defects. The optimized ALD films possessed a low water vapor transmission rate of ~ 10−6 g/m2 day that met the stringent requirement of organic and flexible electronics, while also exhibiting excellent mechanical flexibility by withstanding repeated bending with small increases in gas permeability. Our results provide valuable insights into the development of flexible barrier thin films for the encapsulation of organic and flexible electronics.
